PGH GA Sophomore ID Camp Team 3

Some of the best players in Georgia in the 2029 class took part in the Prep Girls Hoops Georgia Sophomore ID Camp on Saturday in Marietta. Team Three happened to be made up of players who I personally think are some of the hidden gems in that class in this state. Most of these kids are fairly well known because of the productivity in their freshman year of high school and even middle school in some cases, while others are playing their best basketball now.    Sadie picked a really good day to have a really good day scoring the basketball at the showcase. She started out scoring here and there in the first game, but by the end of the event I knew exactly who she was and came away very impressed. Spurlock shot the ball very well from behind the three point line and the midrange, while also showing nifty feet and very good finishing ability attacking the basket off the dribble. Sadie has a sold base of fundamentals and she used her shot and pass fakes well to keep defenders off balance. When she got to the rim off the bounce, she did a nice job evading defenders with side steps and Euros steps. Big stock riser!     Arianna was another player who got better as the day went on. She started out facilitating for her teammates in game one while taking advantage of her opportunities to score. After knocking down a couple shots from three point range, Wilson was feeling it and continued to knock down shots from distance off the bounce and in catch in shoot situations. She never neglected her duty of being a primary ball handler and distributor, but showed her ability to get a bucket when her team needed it. Wilson showed good vocal leadership encouraging and hyping up her teammates after they made a big play.     I am not sure there is a more versatile player in the 2029 class. In fact, she might as well add point guard and power forward to "Position" on her profile. Miya was in her playmaking mode at the showcase and her teammates became the beneficiaries as she sliced her way through defenses off the dribble and distributed the ball with consistency and a little flair. Totherow has very good handles and when she is the primary ball handler for her team, which she was a lot on Saturday, the long lefty looks very natural running the point. Miya does a good job keeping her head up and reading the defense so when the help comes she smoothly gets the ball where the defender came usually resulting in two points. She and Bristol [player_tooltip player_id='1242017' first='Davis' last=''] were outstanding together at the showcase, like they have been for years in Union County and during travel ball. There is no question in my mind that Miya will play in college. With three years left, the question is what level will that be?     Bristol is up there for most improved player in Georgia after watching her play a good amount this Spring and Summer. That is saying a lot because the sophomore was already a very good player, but Bristol has leveled up over the last year (three to four months especially) and that was clear at the Showcase. I asked her if she was just basketball now and she said "Yes Sir, I am not playing volleyball anymore". I am not sure what caused the change, but volleyball's loss is basketball's gain. Bristol is almost six feet tall, is very skilled, and moves like the wind. She scored the ball at a high clip and very good efficiency all day long from fifteen feet in. Her activity level was very high on the defensive end as she put pressure on the ball from baseline to baseline and used her to wingspan to deter and deflect passes. Major stock riser in the 2029 class in Georgia!     Jordyn is one of the best kept secrets in the state of Georgia and it was great to see her shine amongst her peers on Saturday. Thomas plays the game the right way, with a high basketball IQ, and a lot of skill on the offensive end. She does a great job initiating and facilitating the offense no matter the setting she is playing in or the team she is playing on. JT is almost automatic from three when left open and knocks down a god percentage off shots that are contested. She is not just a shooter however and scored the ball in a variety of ways from all three levels as she has done on many other occasions when I have watched her play. She is tucked away in Northwest Georgia and has never played on a major circuit with travel ball. I would take her on my team any day of the week and twice on Sundays and feel very good about the point guard position. Thomas is also a very good softball player for Ridgeland High School.     Ellie was one of the biggest stock risers again at another Prep Girls Hoops event. Not just for her play, but literally because she gets bigger (taller and stronger) every time I see her. Her game is expanding along with her size. Ellie is one of the best shooters in her class and now, at 6' or barely under, she is becoming one of the more efficient scorers in the paint as well. Warren was excellent rebounding on both ends throughout the competition but hurt opposing teams on the offensive backboards especially were she scored second chance points with regularity. IF Ellie works hard over the next three years (she will) to improve her speed and quickness (still growing), then she could find herself on the recruiting boards of multiple division one schools.     Yogi is a player who caught my eye after transferring to Starrs Mill in the offseason. She was very good for them in June when I watched them at GBCA Live and Wofford team camp. She uses her size and length very well slashing to the basket and finishing at the rim. She also showed on Saturday that she is more than capable of knocking down shots from the perimeter with makes from outside and inside the three point line. The most impressive aspect of Yogi's game is her body control and patience when getting to the rack. She was able to go around and over defenders on the ground and in the air before finishing with both hands in the paint. I expect her to have a big sophomore year as she gives Starrs Mill another player to take attention away from Lindsey Kopachek. Boynton recently received an offer from Jackson State.     Shephard's first impression was a good one and it happened on the defensive end as she was able to pick the ball off of a dribbler while applying full court pressure early in the game. Shortly after that, Taylor grabbed a missed shot and converted the put back off the glass to help get her team off to a quick start. From then on, Shephard relentlessly attacked the rim with regularity, either scoring or ending up at the free throw line. Shephard also did a nice job sprinting out on the break and finishing with both hands at the rim.
