Young Prospects Continuing the Grind at FL-GA Showcase

Watching the action at the FL-GA Showcase, it didn't take long to see the energy on the floor. These young ballers were getting up and down the court, making splash play after splash play. The action wasn't always perfect, but each player was eager to make plays in front of the college coaches in the room. The showcase provided an excellent opportunity to evaluate some of the area's emerging young talent. In this article, we examine the young players who stood out and made the most significant impression at the showcase.    Saunders displayed impressive speed, a quick first step, and strong ball-handling ability at the showcase. Saunders used her quickness to get to the rim and score, and she also showed a high basketball IQ for such a young player. Despite just entering the ninth grade, Saunders has already spent the past few years playing varsity basketball, and that experience shows in the way she plays the game. Saunders is an extremely competitive guard who excels in transition and can score at multiple levels. She has a solid midrange game and loves to attack the rim. One thing that really stood out was her shooting during the three-point contest, where she showed the ability to knock down shots from behind the arc. Saunders plays the game like a true point guard. Her quickness allows her to beat defenders, get into the paint, and force defenses to help. When the double-team comes, Saunders recognizes it and finds open teammates on the perimeter. She can be a shooter's dream because of her ability to create those wide-open opportunities for her teammates.       [player_tooltip player_id='1246266' first='Tonya' last='Young'] made an impression at the showcase. What was impressive was her ability to adapt. Initially, she was posting up and wasn't having much success. She stepped and was more comfortable on the wing. From the perimeter, Young scored more and even knocked down a three-pointer. She hustled on the defensive end and showed she could cover on the inside and outside. As she continues to develope, she is going to be a problem and could wind up as one of the top players in her class.     [player_tooltip player_id='1318420' first='Zamora' last='Williams'] continued to get after it at the FL-GA Showcase, just as she has throughout the summer. Williams is still developing, but, she made plenty of splashes at the event. . She plays with great energy, runs the floor hard, and consistently competes on both ends. Offensively, Williams is still developing her touch around the paint, but she can finish when she gets the ball close to the basket. She rebounds well and puts pressure on opponents with her physical presence in the paint. Williams also showed the ability to block shots and protect the rim. As her offensive game continues to develop, her combination of size, energy, rebounding, interior scoring, and competitiveness gives the young forward/center plenty of upside.       [player_tooltip player_id='1355809' first='Brynlee' last='Fassett'] played extremely well at the FL-GA Showcase and definitely caught the attention of the college coaches in attendance. Her size, ability to shoot the three-ball, midrange game, and basketball IQ all stood out. I had seen the young guard previously at the Prep Girls Hoops event in Wellington competing against players in her own age group and dominating. Watching her perform against older competition at this showcase further solidified just how talented she is. Fassett's calling card is her beautiful three-point shot, but she has a great feel for the game.     [player_tooltip player_id='1136121' first='Charlee' last='Matos'] got to cooking in the last game of the showcase, and you could clearly see what all of the excitement is all about. She showed good ball-handling skills, can attack the rim with purpose, and has a nice feel for the game. She also does a good job of rebounding the ball from the guard position. Matos's ability to connect from downtown put the icing on the cake and solidified her as one of the top young players in the showcase.     [player_tooltip player_id='1136120' first='Justice' last='Alderman'] came out of the gates with energy and was ready to compete from the start. Her ability to get up and down the floor stood out among almost everyone at the FL-Ga Showcase. Alderman showed that she can attack the basket and score, while also creating opportunities for her teammates. She can also knock down shots from the perimeter, but what stood out most was her energy and effort on both ends of the court. Whether she was defending, running the floor, or making plays in transition, Alderman consistently played with a high motor.     [player_tooltip player_id='1867303' first='Caroline' last='Mays'] continuously made plays at the FL-GA Showcase. Mays flew quietly under the radar and didn't try to play outside of her comfort zone. Her play was smooth and effective, especially in the midrange area. What stood out was the number of times she made plays throughout the course of the day, without forcing the action. She is definitely a freshman to watch.
