Today, we're looking at some under-the-radar players in the 2026 and 2027 classes. I want to highlight a few kids with intriguing seasons in those classes, so we'll look at a handful of kids who fit that bill.

The potential is there for the Medford wing. You won't find many kids with Baumgartner's size, shooting touch, length, or skill. Sometimes, when I watch her on stream, I'm blown away by some of the things she can do physically. Baumgartner is a multi-sport kid, and if she doesn't play volleyball at Medford, I'd be surprised. I'm sure she'll have plenty of options of what and where to play at the next level, but her ceiling is high on the basketball court, and if she ends up being a scholarship-level athlete when she graduates from Medford.

The Milwaukee Academy of Science guard may be 5'10 on rosters, but she plays taller than that. Guy's length on the defensive end of the floor causes headaches for opposing guards. The way she defends is impressive, and the way she competes is why I love watching her play. She's engaged on the floor and never loses that focus. On the defensive end, she's always guarded the best opposing player, and even though she has a competitive edge, she's one of the calming presences for the Lady Novas. The physical tools and intangibles are all there for her. Guy doesn't have to score 20 for you to see the value she brings to the court.

What I love about Lucassen is her situational awareness. Usually, when I see guards who can score, they get tunnel vision and want to attack at all times. However, Lucassen is a little different. In games where she doesn't score, she turns more into an initiator and focuses on that. She won't have games where she shoots 2/14 because if shots aren't falling for her, she'll create them for others, which is what it means to be a lead guard. Lucassen may not average massive numbers at Preble, but people will probably love playing with her.

Mount Horeb has a stable of underclass talent in its backcourt, including [player_tooltip player_id='915003' first='Maren' last='Johnson']. The guard is a two-way kid who can knock down shots from the perimeter and muscle her way around the basket to finish or grab rebounds. Her physicality makes the difference for a smaller Vikings group in the Badger-Small. Johnson is also an excellent defender who has generated plenty of extra possessions defensively by creating live-ball turnovers, which the Vikings have made teams pay with easy transition points.
