Continue ReadingThis is a brand new squad that was formed in the spring to compete on the Girls Under Armour Association Circuit. This is a very talented and interesting group that could make some noise in the next couple of years with continued development and a couple of additional pieces. Head Coach Robb Dubose is eager to get this group back in the gym. This group is guard heavy and full of talent.
Farrah White, St. Elizabeth (DE) Point Guard
Farrah is on the small side at 5’3″, but that is not going to stop her from shining. She is a good ball handler and passer and excels in the open court. She has a strong pull up game and can knock down shots from all over the court. She’s very crafty and knows how to get into the paint where she can finish or dish off to open teammates.
Tamir Whittle, Long Reach, Guard
Tamir is another small guard that can flat out play. She is a very exciting player that can pull up and knock down threes from NBA range, or penetrate at will into the lane and create havoc for defenses. She has a tight handle and a serious passing game. She turned a lot of heads in her freshman campaign at Long Reach.
Samiya Nasir, Howard, Guard
I first saw Samiya in the 695Hoops fall league and was very impressed by her speed and defensive instincts. She is a terror on the top of a press and applies strong on ball pressure. During the high school season she provided strong minutes for the 20-0 Lions, providing solid point guard play. She showed off a consistent perimeter shot from beyond the arc and made solid decisions. She’s an exceptional athlete with good size for a guard at 5’8″.
Maya Woodson, Hammond, Wing
Maya is a six foot wing with a college ready body. She had a solid freshman campaign at Hammond High and is just scratching the surface of her potential. She can knock down mid range jumpers and finishes inside with both hands. If she extends her range and improves her handle she will collect mid major D1 offers over the next couple of seasons.
Gabrielle Kennerly Gabrielle Kennerly 5'10" | SF Howard | 2023 State MD , Howard, Guard
I first saw “G2″ at a middle school showcase and it was obvious that she would be in the top five of her class throughout her high school career. A torn ACL slowed her down and caused her to miss the first part of her high school season. She came back late in the season and got some spot minutes and improved every time she hit the court. She she showed off her knack for offensive rebounding which allows her to play bigger than her 5’9” size. Her range is out to the 3 point line and she does not have any glaring weaknesses to her game. She is a scorer more than a shooter and brings a ton of versatility to the game. Her best position is “on the court”.
Maya Mercadante, Notre Dame Prep, Wing
Maya is a knock down three point shooter who is working to expand her game. She has great length at six feet even and uses her wing span effectively on defense. She made nine three pointers in one game last summer and had a solid freshman season at NDP.
Jaida Mayles, Mt. Carmel, Wing
Jaida is another sharp shooting wing with decent size at 5’9″. In addition to her 3 point range Jaida can handle the ball and get into the paint, where she can finish with both hands. She is also a good rebounder and will strap up on defense.
Gianna Braxton, Aberdeen, Center
At 6’3″ Gianna is an imposing figure. She is a former rugby player so she is not shy about contact. She is still a bit raw but is a good athlete with nice footwork. She came on strong late in the season for Aberdeen’s varsity after getting called up.
Zakaiya Purnell, Pallotti, Point Guard
Zakaiya is a promising point guard with excellent speed. She is excellent in one on one situations as she excels at breaking defenders down off the dribble. She has a strong motor and stamina and rarely needs to sub out. She is physically strong and has good footwork.
A’Myni Lewis, Western Tech, Guard
Ms. Lewis is another promising guard with good size at 5’9″. She is a raw but can knock down shots from all over the court. She is a scrappy on ball defender and has a strong work ethic. Let’s keep an eye on her development this summer.
