There is an array of talent and skill sets in addition to a lot of depth at every position. The class is hammering down the point that Michigan should be considered a top notch state for girls basketball talent. Let’s take a look at what we might see in the updated sophomore prospect rankings.
Elite Talent
Like we said before, Michigan has elite players at the top that should be considered national targets.
Faith Carson Faith Carson 6'4" | C Buchanan | 2023 State MI (C, Buchanan)
Everyone talks about how she dominates the paint, scoring and grabbing boards almost at will. But let’s not gloss over her solid perimeter passing court vision. Carson can see over top and feed the post.
Macey Fegan Macey Fegan 5'11" | SG Standish-Sterling | 2023 State MI (SG, Standish-Sterling)
Fegan is a terrific perimeter talent. Her combination of positional size, shooting, and ball skills help make her a national type talent. She is a matchup nightmare at all levels of high school basketball.
Maddie Petroelje Maddie Petroelje 6'1" | SF Hudsonville | 2023 State MI (G/F, Hudsonville)
Petroelje plays every game like it’s her last. Her fire and determination are among the best that I’ve seen. Petroeljoe can play outside-in, or inside-out, depending on her matchup.
Moving Up
Lexi Boyke Lexi Boyke 6'1" | PF Frankenmuth | 2023 State MI (PF, Frankenmuth)
Boyke’s versatility is a big reason for her move up the rankings. She can score from all over the court. She’s a high energy defender that can guard in the paint as well as shut down a stretch 4.
Molly Duerloo (PG, Howell)
Duerloo sent a message at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 and she continues to make a statement. She has to be considered one of the top lead guards in the state.
New Talent
Payton Lee Payton Lee 6'4" | C Anchor Bay | 2023 State MI (C, Anchor Bay)
Lee is off to a really nice start to the season and more than deserves to be a ranked prospect in the class of 2023. She has the potential to be an impact post player over the next few years.
Rachel Riley Rachel Riley 5'7" | PG Belleville | 2023 MI (PG, Belleville)
It’s on us for missing Riley in the first place. She’s a very talented passer and floor general. Riley can effectively run the point at any pace.
Watch Out For
Shamya Reid Shamya Reid 5'5" | PG Westfield Prep | 2023 State MI (PG, Westfield Prep)
Reid has a ton of upside. She’s a shifty point guard that creates off the dribble. If the defense rotates to help, she finds her teammates with a creative pass. If they don’t, she finishes at the rim.
Markeita Grays Markeita Grays PF Wayne Memorial | 2023 State MI (PF, Wayne Memorial)
It really looks like Grays is starting to put it all together. She has all the tools needed to be an impact player at Wayne Memorial. Her length and athleticism are a dangerous combination.
