These tournaments feature the best teams from around the country and matches them up against each other in a one loss elimination tournament. The winners will be crowned national champions, and one of the first girl’s tournament matchups is Paul VI vs. Lake Highland Prep which tips off this Friday. These two undefeated juggernauts will clash head to head, but only one will be putting their undefeated record on the line once again in the championship game on April 3. More analysis on this specific matchup is featured below.
PAUL VI Panthers (VA)
The PVI Panthers, coached by Scott Allen, are a team with incredible depth and athletic ability. They out-run teams up and down the floor in offensive transition, and on defense they work together coherently as one unit. To win this game the Panthers’ defense will have to limit the productivity of Lake Highland’s extremely effective frontcourt, specifically Nyla Harris and Kayla Blackshear. Both Harris and Blackshear are capable of putting up big time double-double numbers and that’s not to mention just the overall prowess of this Lake Highland Prep team. PVI can absolutely win this game en route to a potential championship, however, it’s going to take a phenomenal effort from key Panther players like Bella Perkins and Laura Williams in order to come out victorious. There can only be one highlander!
LAKE HIGHLAND PREP Highlanders (FL)
Lake Highland has a lot of size and they’re very physical in the paint. As mentioned above, their stars in the frontcourt, Kayla Blackshear and Nyla Harris, are incredibly talented and are also committed to Alabama and Louisville respectively. If both players get comfortable scoring early then it could be a long day for PVI. However, Lake Highland must take care of the basketball as they cannot afford to turn the ball over against the Panthers. PVI is one of the fastest teams in the nation and they’re certainly one of the best in transition scoring so there’s no question that Lake Highland cannot play sloppy. This first round matchup is truly incredible and it is sure to bring fireworks on Friday!
