The class of 2024 has completed their freshman season and has now been ranked by Prep Girls Hoops for the first time. If you missed the piece on numbers twenty-five through thirty-two, click here. Let’s take a look at seventeen through twenty-four:
#17 – Sophia Sabus Sophia Sabus 5'11" | CG Ralston Valley | 2024 State CO – Ralston Valley
As a 6′ total package ball-handler, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sabus work her way up this list. She stepped onto a top-5, 5A roster and impacted games on both ends of the court. She hit eleven threes and secured forty-eight rebounds, while snagging thirty-four steals compared to her twenty-four turnovers playing against some of the best competition in Colorado. Sabus gets one more year to play with her sister, standout Saya Sabus Saya Sabus 5'9" | CG Ralston Valley | 2022 State CO , and with the graduation of such a strong class discussed here, both Sabus sisters will see their workloads pick up hugely this year. Both are ready for the challenge.
#18 – Alexis Baker Alexis Baker 5'7" | CG ThunderRidge | 2024 State CO – ThunderRidge
The Baker sisters have one more season together, too. Alexis stood out as a freshman who was just more ready, physically and mentally stronger, than most freshmen. To be even one-third as aggressive as her sister, Adrianna Baker Adrianna Baker 5'9" | CG ThunderRidge | 2022 State CO , would surely get Alexis on this list. The younger Baker is an active, physical defender who sees the floor well and uses her quickness to create advantages for herself in the paint. She dropped 7.1 PPG and her big sister led the Grizzlies with 9.1 PPG.
#19 – Emma Cox Emma Cox 6'0" | PF Flatirons Academy | 2024 State CO – Flatirons Academy
Not much to see with this one. Just a double-double average and a state championship in her inaugural season. Cox scored 14.7 a game and crashed for 10.1 boards a game. She an active defender with nearly three steals a game (2.7 SPG) and she grew stronger as the games grew bigger, averaging a staggering 17.8 PPG during the Bison playoff run. But can she shoot from outside? Cox hit five threes in her first season, just enough to keep opponents honest.
#20 – Savannah Pohl Savannah Pohl 6'0" | SF Longmont | 2024 State CO – Longmont
Pohl is another ’24 standout who came on strong towards the end of her season, dropping 15.8 PPG in her final six games lifting her season average to 10.9. Her sophomore season will tell a lot about how far her draft prospects can climb. The power forward showed high-level efficiency at 1.3 points per shot on the season, hitting 32% of her threes and getting to the line seventy-three times.
#21 – Brooke Gomez Brooke Gomez 5'8" | CG Westminster | 2024 State CO – Westminster
Speed and ball handling go so far in this game which will enable Gomez to rise as far as she wants on this 2024 list. Seventeen and fifteen are big numbers for a freshman. Especially when you realize those are rebounding numbers for a 5’7″ point guard in individual games. Yes, she grabbed seventeen boards in a game. As Gomez harnesses that energy with a bit more control her potential is through the roof. Gomez and a standout teammate of hers are also featured here.
#22 – Krystyna Manzanarez Krystyna Manzanarez 5'8" | PG Grand Junction Central | 2024 State CO – Grand Junction Central
It’s hard to create five baskets for teammates in a game. It’s especially hard to do that against Holy Family’s shifty matchup zone. In last year’s Great 8 match up, probably every coach in Colorado thought GJC was in for a rough one. They kept it to an eight-point game against the senior heavy Tigers and Manzanarez was a big reason why. Her quickness, court vision, and ability to knock down 35% of her threes make her a 2024 standout point guard.
#23 – Penny Urquhart Penny Urquhart 5'10" | SG Littleton | 2024 State CO – Littleton
If it seems like Urquhart is featured a lot on this site, it’s because she’s constantly in the gym. Not afraid to drive for a showcase and as part of high school and club teams that pack the summer and fall with exposure opportunities, Penny is quickly becoming a well-known worker in the 2024 ranks. She’s the adult in the room in terms of taking care of the ball. Urquhart juxtaposes the finesse of a knock-down shooter with the bruising physicality of a shut-down defender.
#24 – Jenna Krise Jenna Krise 5'11" | PG Briggsdale | 2024 State CO – Briggsdale
Do you remember the time you scored twenty-six points in a state semifinal game? Neither do I. But Jenna Krise Jenna Krise 5'11" | PG Briggsdale | 2024 State CO does. She scored 20.7 PPG during the Falcons deep playoff run and 15.3 PPG on the season, making her team far better with a 1.6 assist to turnover ratio. In a game of theirs I watched recently, Krise applied pressure at the top of a 1-3-1 zone and had no trouble penetrating the opponents’ zone to create for her cousin, Kylie Krise Kylie Krise 5'11" | CG Briggsdale | 2022 State CO (16.3 PPG), and the rest of the Falcons.
