It’s a great look into how high school teams are going to look this upcoming year. What adjustments did they make in the off season? What players are stepping up after losing senior leadership from the previous season? We’ve already looked at some of the senior ball handlers, so let’s take a look at the rest of them that stood out.
Alana Hankerson was doing a nice job facilitating the offensive plays handling the ball and finding her open teammates. She was constantly directing her teammates where to go to get an offensive set going. She was so effective weaving in and out of her opponents on fast breaks getting to the rim. She makes such effective passes even running at full speed finding the right target.
Addison Sirianni showed off her handles and deep shooting ability around the perimeter. She makes nice passes in between defenders finding her teammates’ hands underneath the basket. She’s a tough defender, too, jumping in front of passes on the press causing deflections and preventing her opponents from even getting past half court.
Highlights
Brooklyn Saunders is one of the most feisty guards in the area. She goes after loose balls and plays aggressive defense knocking the ball away from her opponents. This is on top of everything she does on the offensive side of the ball showing off her smooth moves changing direction, losing her defenders, and getting to the basket. She gets open creating her own space to put up a jumper.
Brianna Carelock was showing off her defensive toughness coming up with two big steals in the fourth quarter against a tough opponent bringing some life to her team. She scored one of the fast breaks off the first steal and had the assist to her teammate scoring three one the second. There was a reason her opponents were trying to trap her, but that didn’t phase her as she was able to get out of it with her handles or finding an open teammate. She can score on all levels, and she make adjustments to get the ball into her teammates.
