The 17U and 16U national teams are particularly intriguing to me and are going to be difficult to beat. Let’s take a look at some of the forwards from these teams.
Jodi King has been handling business in the paint for years now, and she will certainly continue to do so with her nice footwork and post moves. She knows how to read her defenders well using what they give her to show off her moves and score some points. She’s been expanding the floor, too, making cuts around the perimeter and putting up her shot from there.
Highlights
Lauren Farrell uses her wide stance and height to battle against anyone in the paint. She is a force when it comes to getting rebounds on both ends of the court, and she is sure to score off of offensive rebounds. She runs the floor well being ready for the pass in transition to score some points, and she is sure to block some shots on the other end of the court.
Highlights
Mackenzie Ortscheid had a phenomenal season with Northwest Cabarrus putting in work all over the court. She has a finesse with the ball on the block being able to score some points off her moves, and she can use her ball handling to make some plays further from the basket. She definitely shouldn’t be left open around the perimeter as she can knock down that shot, too. Her IQ is apparent on defense knowing how to prevent her opponents from getting easy paths to the basket.
Jeta North was able to find a good rhythm with 1 of 1 Prep this season. Her height is certainly an asset on both ends of the court as she knows how to go to work off any kind of pass that her teammates throw her way. She will work for rebounds making sure her opponents don’t get a second chance, and she uses her length to get hands in the way of opponents’ shots.
