Battle in The Sunflower Saturday 17u Top Performers

Ten players on Saturday stood out as the Top Performers in the 17U this past weekend at Battle in the The Sunflower event. I enjoyed covering the 17u group and seeing some new young talent I look forward to now following their high school careers. "Scoring Guard" This young lady can just flat out find ways to score. First off I like lefty guards that can attack the rim which Lanney can do and did it often Saturday. Solid skill set that can shoot the 3 or take the defender to rim. Nice handles that allow her to play the point guard spot as well. Good vision in the open court making nice decisions.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>They type of player that is very active on both ends of the court. The shot is quick and has such a smooth release. The shot is with range and does not need space to shoot. I watched her square up defender 22 feet away and just lifted up for a knock down 3. Great understanding of moving without the ball finding the open spots to fill. A shooter that you better be locating on defense or she will make you pay. On offense she creates gaps for her team mates because she is a player that you can not help off. On ball screens she that type of shooter you need to fight over the top to defend the shot. Listed as a point guard but her shooting abilities from the outside could allow her to play that combo guard spot. Aysia being one of those talented players that when I watched just does the little things. What I mean by that she is one of those players that get double digits and you like wow okay. Great decisions in transition always looking up the floor resulting in fast break points. The defense pressure she applied had the opposing team struggling to run their offense. Nice handles using a crossover move to by the defender finishing with a sweet floater in the paint. A very athletic player listed at 6'0 that can play the outside and inside. Showed a nice mid range game with face up jumpers and taking the defender to the rim 15 feet out. Great size allows her to defend a much taller player on the post if needed. Excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor. Moved great without the ball relocating to the open spots for the kick. Quick handles on the fast break that is patient enough to wait until the seem opens then hits it hard for a layup. Great vision on the drive reading second level defense to find the open girl on the backside. The length she has allowed her to take contact on the drive then stretch out for the finish with a little baby hook off the glass. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On defense great hands and quickness when guarding on the ball. Understands defensive rotation and help. Posses a very strong scoring offensive skill set. Great footwork on the step back 3 for the shot. Attacks the rim off the dribble finding the gap to finish with a layup. In the 1-2-2 zone she played on the bottom of the zone. Next time down she was playing the middle of the 2-3 zone. I will mark it down that she has a good understanding of the game to be able to play so many different spots. List as a combo guard but attacks the rim with the quickness and aggression as a point. A nice little hesi dribble off the wing going right or left fitted perfect with the dribble drive motion offense. What I really liked was she got her shoulders turned down hill when she decided to go. If the defender backs off to stop the drive she will definitely knock down a 3 on you. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Defensively she knows one way and that is go hard! She took a charge on a fast break in a summer tournament meaning when she steps in between the lines it is GO TIME! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I enjoy watching a kid that plays hard no matter what the score is nor who it is against.
