Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
I caught a glimpse of Zariya on film during The Clash, and she was hitting shots from the outside and sprinting up the floor like a gazelle to score transition points. All the athleticism and length to be a high-level wing, Zariya is dangerous as a slasher and will make teams pay who give her space from three. She closes out quickly to swat shots on the perimeter and protects the rim inside. Zariya’s athleticism and length should cause matchup problems, and she’ll be a key prospect for Michigan Storm Elite 16U at the PGH MI College Tour III.

Zariya has a unique combination of length, athleticism, mobility, and skill that makes her stand out on the court. She worked hard to keep perfect defensive positioning, denying an entry pass from one block all the way to the other. The pass was forced, and Zariya deflected the ball to pick up a steal. She blocked a shot and kicked the ball out to open shooters after penetrating off the dribble. Zariya backed down her defender, used a sudden spin move, and finished the layup off two feet. She’s a Heritage prospect to keep an eye on this season.

Zariya had an impressive showing at Wade’s World Showcase, displaying her versatility as a player who can dominate both inside and out. Long, athletic, and explosive, she used her length and bounce to impact the game on both ends of the floor. During 3v3 play, she caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down shots with confidence and rhythm. Her skill and competitiveness carried over into the 1v1 competition, where she battled her way to the finals. Zariya’s blend of athleticism, shooting touch, and energy makes her a matchup problem and a player with a bright future.

Zariya is a prospect with one of the highest ceilings in Michigan’s 2028 class. What she showed at the SVSU MLK Classic is her trajectory to be a wing or possibly shooting guard at the college level. Zariya’s foot speed, height, frame, and offensive versatility jump out. She can face up and drive to the basket or knockdown shots from the perimeter. Zariya started the game with a smooth corner 3 and two downhill drives for layups. She used her length to generate steals and block a shot on the defensive end. Zariya nearly had a double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds for Heritage.

Zariya used her length, athleticism, and aggressiveness to give Saginaw Heritage an advantage on both ends at the LBI Mitten Opening Scrimmage. Zariya runs the floor quickly in transition to create fast break offense, finishing layups off two at the rim. Zariya used a crossover to beat her defender and then transferred the ball quickly to her right hand to score a contested layup. Her length and recovery speed disrupts passing lanes, causing countless turnovers in the press. Zariya swiped the ball away to score another layup and will be a prospect who continues to impress this winter for the Hawks.

If McCrary is there, I can guarantee some coach action at least on livestream. She does the positionless basketball trend very well. I guess you could call her a combo forward. McCrary has the length and athleticism to rebound and defend the paint at a high level. But she also has slick handles and the ability to attack lanes off the bounce.
