About Avani

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My coaches have shared they think I'm a well rounded player and I can play the 1-5, depending on who else is on the court. I'm not the flashiest player, but can score from pretty much anywhere on the court, have the speed to be the first one back, and led our team in defensive rebounds. I'd describe my gameplay style as smooth but effective.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

- 2023, 2024 IESA Track & Field State Finalist (200, 4x200, 4x400, high jump) - 2025 IHSA Track & Field Finalist (4x400, high jump) - Volleyball - Honor Roll Student - Northwestern Center For Talent Development: 2024 Community Leadership Program (selected via teacher nominations) - 8th Grade Graduation Speech Competition (Honorable Mention) - Fenwick Black Student Union - Fenwick Spanish Club

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I've lived in 3 different cities growing up so far (St Louis, MO; San Jose, CA; Chicago, IL) which I think has helped me learn how to adjust to new surroundings and make friends quickly. It also has deepened my sense of empathy for others and my understanding of the importance of inclusion (for both new teammates and new class mates).

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a school that will give me a strong education as well as allows me to further my basketball career.

Williams has shown some growth this year and seems to be on pace for a bigger summer season. She has all the tools to be one of the best players in this state, and honestly she can get there before senior season. The length is there, the frame has time to develop, and the athleticism is present.
