Expert Analysis
Sam Duren | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
As usual, Miles did everything for JYD in this premier contest. An interesting development was apparent with her continual improvement as a shooter. Defenders already often have to play on their heels to contain her ability to get paint touches. There were stretches in this contest where she shot it and made it with supreme confidence off the dribble and from deep. (She would follow up this game with similar fantastic shooting results with a 40 point game).
Right now, Miles’ shooting is still a touch streaky. But given the improvement over the lat year, it’s quite possibly she’ll soon become a “maker” and not just a “shooter”.

After a slow start by her lofty standards, Miles proceeded to take the game over. Making play after play to help with a rally, build a double digit lead and then win the contest. Her three point shooting was spotty. But she had the confidence to pull up from well beyond the arc and drain a go ahead three with about 2 minutes left in the game. Her clutchness continued, as with about a minute left and down one, she picked an opponent’s pocket, then was fouled on her layup attempt. She proceeded to hit both at the line to put JYD up 1. A moment later she made a big block at the rim that helped secure the victory.
Miles has already earned a handful of Power 4 offers this past winter because of her combination of athleticism and do it all aspects. Her touch and vision on passes has continued to improve, making her even more of a teammate elevator. Great reads to cutting teammates in the halfcourt and always is looking to find teammates in transition.
Plays like a free safety on defense, which does lead to some brilliance with teleporting for steals or blocks. But in this contest it did lead to a giving up a few open looks from three that appeared to be the result of her floating away from the three point line. There’s so much to like about Miles’ skillset and approach that in some ways it’s nit picking. But it’s fine margins for the levels between good and great.

Here’s the number one thing about Miles; every time she steps between the lines, she brings it. And she brings it in every facet of the game. She’s the best passer in this class. Amazing transition dimes, drives and kicks, tight window passing etc. It’s the unselfishness and energy giving she plays with which sets her apart. Especially as it translates to a whirlwind of destruction on the defensive end. Regularly racks up the steals and blocks.
Despite her unselfish nature, she can take over games as a scorer as well. Especially as she has improved her three point shooting, making her arguably the most well rounded player in Oklahoma. With a dog mentality, she’s a great example of a small town player who “got it from the mud”. More colleges have started to notice, with Baylor and Oklahoma State offering. Along with other Power 4 programs starting to make the pilgrimage to small towns in Northern Oklahoma to watch the fearless competitor.

One of the state’s premier players
led Pawhuska to Mike Kerr Classic title in Morrison. In the title game win, she scored 33 points while also playing lock down defense on Pawnee’s best player. For the tournament she was her usual stat sheet stuffing self, averaging double figures in rebounds and steals. Including a ridiculous 16 steals to start the tournament. Miles plays the game with relentless energy and heart, while also being one of the most athletic guards in Oklahoma.

Miles was her “killer with a smile” herself from the jump on Meet the Huskies night in Pawhuska. Defensively she was flying around for blocks along the perimeter, hunting passing lanes and more. Outlet passes and on the money passes complimented her driving skills. And perhaps most impressively, she was dialed in as a shooter. Shooting it cleanly and hitting it early from three. Miles did all this with a smile on her face and an infectious energy that elevates her small town teammates. One of the best players in Oklahoma regardless of class.

The best havoc causer in the Class of 2028 and arguably regardless of class in Oklahoma. Will be among the state’s leaders in steals and blocks, which some of it could be marked down to playing small school ball. However her dominating performances during grassroots season are good evidence that she would still be swatting shots and picking off passes like a defensive back at a high rate in Class 6A. What takes her defensive capabilities to another level, is how quickly she turns those moments into offense. With rapidly improving vision and touch on passes. Or just good old fashion speed to take it coast to coast in the blink of an eye.

The highest-ranking mover of the summer showed at the Expo what other people have been seeing all summer. A tall guard that can play the 1-3 spot on the floor who plays at high level. Possibility one of the quickest runs back guards I have seen all summer. Meaning after a score she gets the ball in hand and runs it back before the defense can get set up. A complete guard that brings all the offensive skill set coaches are looking for.
Long and quick that plays all out in between the lines on defense creating turnovers. The lateral drop on defense allows her to work as a ball handler side to side without giving up any ground. Excellent rebounder at the guard spot that needs no outlet as she is a rebound and go type player. 2028 that exploded for 40+ performance in KY this summer..

Sharks have to keep swimming to keep breathing. On the basketball court, Miles is a shark because like sharks she never stops swimming aka moving. From her trademark chase down blocks or flying out to block jumpers along the perimeter.
Then there’s her covering the length of the floor in the blink of an eye. Where she can finish with the best of them or find teammates all over the court. Her vision and anticipation skills on both ends of the court are top notch. Not to mention, she’s continuing to shoot it at a higher rate from deep. It’s only a matter of time till Power 4 programs start to pull the trigger on “Tiger Shark”

“Tiger Shark” has mastered the ability to explode out of nowhere and swat jumpers along the perimeter. That alone would make her among the top defenders in Oklahoma. But she’s also a predator when it comes to playing the passing lanes and forcing on the ball steals. Plays with seemingly never ending energy on the defensive end. Which combined with her offensive pedigree, gives her the potential to record quadruple doubles this year for Pawhuska.

Athletic guard is coming off an outstanding summer ball season. Great length and quickness that can play the 1-3 spots on the floor. A player that lets her numbers speak for themselves. Look for the numbers to increase under the new coach’s system for the Lady Huskies
