Ira Becks | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Jaylah continues to solidify her status as one of the top prospects in the 2028 class. Competing on a team loaded with talent and multiple All-Americans, she averaged 8.3 PPG while consistently impacting the game beyond the box score. Jaylah’s feel for the game is what immediately stands out. She possesses a high-level basketball IQ, understands spacing, timing, and decision-making, and always seems to be one step ahead of the competition. She can score when called upon, but her ability to make winning plays and elevate those around her makes her especially valuable. Jaylah competes at a high level every possession, and that relentless competitiveness separates her from many players in her class. Already holding offers from several high-major programs, she has established herself as one of the nation’s premier prospects. With her continued growth and development, Jaylah’s stock will only continue to rise throughout the summer and beyond.

Jaylah was in for a career night with 15 points in the first half. She could do no wrong and was the absolute best player on the court sitting on zero fouls in the half. The second half was much different as the referee’s tuned their whistles to her frequency having her head to the bench with her 4th foul with 3:30 to play. The flow changed and she was only able to muster another three points in the game going 1 for 7 in the second half still leading the Mustangs with 18 points.

Jaylah has been racking up D1 offers since the 8th grade and pretty much can go wherever she wants. That applies to her on court maneuvering as well. Her strong handle, speed and explosiveness make her a tough assignment for anyone in the area. She’s arguably at the top of the list of players to see.

‘s game is how she can score without needing the ball a lot. In both games and really all season, Jaylah did a great job hitting open spot-up looks. She always does a great job of leaking out and getting easy buckets. In the final, Jaylah had a couple of strong takes with both hands, and she was excellent in transition. Jaylah’s effort on the glass was fun to watch, and her athleticism and tenacity were on display, out jumping Bishop Ireton players multiple times. She ended the final with a game-high 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Jaylah imposed her will from the opening tip, living in the passing lanes and disrupting the Cadets’ offense throughout the game. She turned at least six steals into easy transition opportunities, shifting momentum with her defensive instincts and anticipation. In the half-court, she showed patience and poise, finding her spots by attacking the lane or confidently knocking down shots from beyond the arc. Her performance was a clear reminder of why she stands alone in her class.

Jaylah had a difficult time with the referees, it seemed like they had a target on her. She scored 15 points and was the difference maker in overtime but nothing came easy for her. It seemed like almost every time she touched the ball there was a head scratching whistle. Defensively she dipped into the passing lanes repeatedly to get some breakaway baskets. She was also able to capitalize from the line scoring half of her points from the stripe.

. She dropped 15 points in there snow rescheduled game against St. John’s which included three 3-pointers. She made threes off the catch and shoot but also created space when she was covered tightly with a step back off the dribble. On the possession change she sprinted the floor for the catch and finish with contact.

Jaylah stands out as a strong two-way presence within her class. While she is capable of initiating the offense and handling point guard responsibilities when needed, she is most effective working off the ball, where her height and skill set allow her to score efficiently. Her patented euro step is a reliable weapon, showcasing both control and creativity when attacking the basket. Defensively, her combination of size and quickness enables her to guard positions one through three, and she consistently competes on every possession without conceding effort.

Jaylah’s 18 point performance would be a great game for about anyone else on the planet. However, in a three point loss to a state rival, she is probably wishing she had did more (I feel sorry for the next team she faces). With that being said she have a phenomenal game by anyone’s standard, some really good finishes. She put pressure on the defense getting to the line repeatedly and going a perfect 8 for 8 from the line. She led all scorers in the second half and the pivotal fourth quarter.
