Sydney torched Rosedale to the tune of 29 points going a very efficient 11-15 from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from the line. She was unstoppable and was clearly the best player in the budling on day one of the MDPSSBT. She led the Panthers in points, blocked shots and rebounds which she had 11 with five of the boards on the offensive end.

St. Frances and Steward played a highly entertaining game that St. Frances was able to win by 2. St. Frances had a balanced attack this tourney, and there have been a couple of players that have stood out to me I’ve talked about. One I have yet to get to is Sydney Sutton. Sydney is a great driver and a super-skilled finisher. She is a good athlete and deceptively strong. Sydney knocked down a big three and caused Steward problems by attacking the rim. She finished with a team-high 16 points.

Sydney was the game’s high scorer with 16 points. She nailed a huge three-pointer late in the game to seal the win for her team. She played some good defense, matching up with a much bigger player and holding her own. She has a big positive for the team in this one, doing a lot of dirty work and finding the ball. She plays well off Dorsey so she should have nice run during league play.

Sydney was huge for the Panthers in this one, especially in the fourth quarter where she scored 7 of her 9 points. She made some clutch shots in the closing minutes to help her team hold off a furious late push by Penn Charter. She strapped up on defense too, providing toughness and making it tough for her coach to take her off the floor.

Look for Sydney to have a much bigger role at St. Frances this season. Her competitive nature and intensity on defense will be two reasons why. She has the physical tools as well, including upper body strength to hold her position against bigger players. She is a disruptive force at the point of attack out on the perimeter, using her feet and quick hands to turn defenders into traps.

Sydney is a tough competitor and always looks like she’s looking for the smoke on the court. She will bang inside if necessary and does not shy away from contact. She has a smooth little pull up jumper and she gets good elevation on her shot. She had a good day, playing hard and encouraging teammates.
