The five players below can be relied on to fill it up from the outside and look to be among the best shooters in the class right now. The list below was restricted to those players who made our initial Top 2023 rankings.

Bishop Garrigan | 2023
State
IA
– 5’7 PG – Bishop Garrigan HS – CY Select
Joyce led all freshmen across the state with 65 3-pointers made this past season. She was 65-of-205 from beyond the perimeter and hit at a 31.7 percent rate. She finished the year 17th among all players in made 3-pointers and made 14 more than the next freshman in the state. Joyce’s shooting percentage is a little low for the volume that she takes but she is very reliable to make an open 3-pointer. She has a ton of confidence and I won’t be surprised to see her finish her high school career around the 40 percent mark in a few years.

Grinnell | 2023
State
IA
– 5’9 SG – Grinnell HS – Iowa Intensity
Hull made five 3-pointers in the first game of the season and put her hot shooting on display quickly. Grinnell plays a style unlike any school in the state and it entails shooting the ball if open on the catch. She cooled off at the end of the season but she proved all year long that she’s a freshman that you need to get a body on. She made 51 3-pointers on the season which ranked 2nd in the state among all freshmen. Her size and shooting ability will be highly sought after in a few years.

Waterloo West | 2023
State
IA
– 5’5 PG – Waterloo West HS – Team Iowa
Poock went about business this year as she helped her team get to Well. Once in Des Moines, she had a coming-out party of sorts as she led her team to an upset over Cedar Falls. Poock is wired to score and made 47 3-pointers this past season. She is one of the most dynamic guards in the state and she was able to make her name known on the big stage. She shot a very solid 38.2 percent from behind the arc this past season and I have no doubt she’ll even become more efficient going forward.
Jaeden Ferris

Ferris
5'8" | PG
Westwood | 2023
State
IA
– 5’8 PG – Westwood HS
Ferris is likely an unknown player in the class of 2023 but she is most definitely one of the top shooters in the freshman class. She was able to make 47 3-pointers on the season while shooting the ball at a 42.7 percent clip. Ferris shot the ball at the highest percentage among all players in the rankings and will likely continue to see that improve as her team gets better around her. Right now Ferris is ranked at #58 in the class but as she continues to develop she’ll be moving up.

Jackson

Roosevelt | 2023
State
IA
– 5’9 PG – Des Moines Roosevelt HS – All Iowa Attack
Jackson is the only player on this list who doesn’t always play the guard spot which makes her 46 made 3-pointers even more impressive. At times she was forced to guard the interior players on the other team but still was able to make 46 3-pointers on the year. She shot the ball at a 42.2 percent rate and was one of the most surefire shooters in the state, regardless of class. As she gets better and has the ball in her hands more I think that she’ll be looking at increasing her made 3’s to around 65 or more come her senior year.
