2022 5’11 PF Alyssa Costigan Alyssa Costigan 6'0" | SG Paul VI | 2022 State VA – Paul VI (VA) – GTS Fusion
If there’s an award for breakout performance in a season then Alyssa Costigan Alyssa Costigan 6'0" | SG Paul VI | 2022 State VA should’ve won it for her performance this past Spring. The Junior power forward stood out most during GEICO Nationals where she burst into the spotlight and helped lead the PVI Panthers to the finals against a powerhouse Westlake, GA team. Her performance of the year, in my opinion, was in the semifinals against Lake Highland Prep. Costigan showed true heart with the all-out effort she put forth, and she also demonstrated that great teams play defense and rebound as a unit. PVI will make another strong case for GEICO Nationals next year, especially with Alyssa Costigan Alyssa Costigan 6'0" | SG Paul VI | 2022 State VA leading the charge.
2023 6’0 PF Mariah Sanabia Mariah Sanabia 6'0" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2023 State MD – Archbishop Spalding – Team Durant
Mariah Sanabia Mariah Sanabia 6'0" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2023 State MD is, and will be next season, the most consistent post player on this list. She will easily average a double-double on the offensive side, and on defense she is a relentless shot blocker with stellar rebounding. She’s also a facilitator, as she averaged nearly three assists per game in the Spring. Team Durant is where Mariah thrives in grassroots play, and it is where she will continue to grow and develop. Watch out for Mariah Sanabia Mariah Sanabia 6'0" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2023 State MD and Archbishop Spalding to make some noise in Maryland next season.
2022 5’7 PG Daimoni Dorsey Daimoni Dorsey 5'7" | PG St. Frances Academy | 2022 State MD – St. Frances Academy – Team Thrill
St. Frances Academy might just have the best backcourt in Maryland this Fall and the reason is the Dorsey sisters. Daimoni and her younger sister Kameryn have taken the DMV by storm and their chemistry on and off the court is truly captivating. In a recent interview Daimoni said, “Last season was very good to me. I played my role well, made shots, and learned a lot.” With her incredible maturity, Daimoni Dorsey Daimoni Dorsey 5'7" | PG St. Frances Academy | 2022 State MD is the natural leader of the St. Frances Academy Panthers, and she will be the catalyst of yet another breakout season this Fall. If D1 programs are looking for an up and coming point guard then Daimoni Dorsey Daimoni Dorsey 5'7" | PG St. Frances Academy | 2022 State MD should be at the top of their lists.
2023 5’4 PG Kameryn Dorsey Kameryn Dorsey 5'7" | PG St. Frances Academy | 2023 State MD – St. Frances Academy – Team Thrill
Kameryn Dorsey Kameryn Dorsey 5'7" | PG St. Frances Academy | 2023 State MD completes the Dorsey sister tandem, and the Panthers’ guard is as versatile in the backcourt as anyone at this level. When asked about her tandem’s anticipated historic caliber performance, Kameryn responded with, “Ya, I feel great! We are going to prove them right by just grinding as hard as we can and seeing how we can contribute on the court.” The Dorsey sisters are one of the most exciting and electric duos in the DMV right now, and their Fall debut will be a sublime moment for St. Frances Academy. The future for the Panthers’ program is incredibly bright with Kameryn and her sister in the backcourt.
2024 5’10 SF Ayahna Gibson Ayahna Gibson 5'10" | SF Good Counsel | 2024 State MD – Good Counsel – Maryland Belles
Ayahna thrives in the paint, but she is equally comfortable handling the basketball and playing the role of facilitator. With her size and elite ball handling skill, she is incredibly difficult to guard and her passing ability makes it nearly impossible. She is a bit right hand dominant, for the time being, and if she can continue to develop her left handed finishing capabilities around the basket then there’s no doubt that Ayahna will be a D1 point guard. Good Counsel will make a strong run at the WCAC title next season and Ayahna Gibson Ayahna Gibson 5'10" | SF Good Counsel | 2024 State MD will be a huge reason for that.
