Guards
Yanni Brown. 2022, Meade
Yanni has been a consistent floor general for the Mustangs, providing leadership and steady play from the point guard position. She is a tough competitor that attacks the rim aggressively looking to score or dish off to a teammate. She has a step back mid range jumper in her bag to keep defenders off balance, and she has been shooting the three pointer well too. She is still in search of a college home.
Gabrielle Kennerly Gabrielle Kennerly 5'10" | SF Howard | 2023 State MD , 2023, Howard
Gabby is starting to look like her knee issues are almost fully behind her. Every week in fall league action she has started to look more and more dominant. She has stepped into the role of point guard out of necessity, and has adapted well. She sees the floor well and delivers accurate passes. She has always been a scorer and a good rebounder so her game is really evolving. There’s still another level of explosiveness for her to get back to but she’s well on her way.
Tsion Smith Tsion Smith 5'2" | CG Mount Carmel | 2022 State MD , 2022, Mt. Carmel
Tsion shot the ball really well from three point range and showed off a really quick release. She is a versatile defender, capable of banging in the paint with bigger guards and forwards and also keeping quick small guards in front of her. She’s a high IQ team defender with a knack for funneling her assignment to where the help is. She is still sorting out her college options.
Emory Aarons, 2023, Wise
Emory is a scrappy and fiesty point guard that takes no plays off. She competes at a high level on defense, using her quick feet and active hands to frustrate opponents. She has a nice floater game and gets to the rim.
Maya Carnes, 2022, Friends
Maya has turned in several weeks of strong performances in league play. She is a senior at The Friends School but is running with Western Tech. A 5’6″ combo guard that can run an offense or play off the ball, she has showcased both abilities. She puts pressure on defenses by rebounding and immediately pushing the break by pass or dribble. She has a nice mid range game and can get into the paint and finish. She is still considering her college options.
Destini Ward, 2022, Western Tech
Destini has committed to St. Francis of PA and she showed off her full bag of tricks during league play. She scored 28 in Western Tech’s thrilling double overtime win over Forest Park which was one of the best games we had.. Most of her buckets come from drives and slashes to the hoop, but she can also knock down some jumpers. She is a physically tough lefty that knows how to create space to get her shots off. She’s a strong defender that plays bigger than her size. Plug her in at either guard spot and she’ll perform.
Laurie Satchell Laurie Satchell 5'9" | PF St. Paul School | 2022 State MD , 2022, St. Paul’s
Laurie balled out in the double overtime win over Forest Park as well, dropping the game winning shot. She goes to St. Paul’s but ran with the Western Tech squad in the league. She did her usual damage on the boards, hitting the double figure mark, and also scored in double figures almost every game.. She has added a nice three point shot to her arsenal and looked comfortable letting it fly. I don’t know what her best position is, she’s gamer. Just put her in with four other players and watch her work. At 5’11″ she has the size and strength to help a team in a number of ways.
Destiny Holmes Destiny Holmes 5'8" | PG Forest Park | 2022 State MD , 2022, Forest Park
Destiny stayed in attack mode on both ends of the floor all day. She pressed up on ball handlers and caused several turnovers with her physical play. She is a very confident player and she helped keep her younger teammates composed. She averaged double figures, most on transition buckets and drives to the rim. She will be a contributor to a college program that needs a strong two way guard that can play both positions.
Kelsey Parker, 2023, Pikesville
Kelsey is my most improved player from the fall. A quick two guard with a nice first step and she has been using it to get into the lane and cause problems for defenders. She has been a reliable scoring option for Pikesville and is getting buckets from all three levels. I’m most impressed by her ability to finish through contact. It seems like she gets at least one “And 1” opportunity each game. She’s competing hard on defense as well so she will be a big contributor for the Panthers this season.
Gabrielle Johnson Gabrielle Johnson 5'7" | PG Western | 2022 State MD , 2022, Western
Gabby committed to Morgan State recently and she showed up and showed out in Western’s league games. She scored from all three levels, set up teammates for buckets and competed with a ton of intensity on defense. “Showtime” was definitely in the house.
Ny’Ceara Pryor Ny’Ceara Pryor 5'2" | PG Western | 2022 State MD , 2022, Western
Lil Mama came through and showed everyone why she’s one of the top 2022 guards in the area. The Doves went undefeated in league play and her competitive spirit is one of the main reasons why. She made all the right plays and provided whatever was needed to win, be it scoring or defense. She has commited to Sacred Heart University.
