Chesapeake had a lot of opportunities by the rim but couldn’t capitalize as Concordia kept up their pressure defense and long range shooting for a 48-33 victory. The Saints were so hot from beyond the arc that if there wasn’t a three-point line the score may have been tied as they hit 15 three pointers in the game to blow open a 22-18 halftime lead. In the end we learned a lot about each team and their players, here are some of the standouts from the game.
Gabby Smelcer – 5’9″ – Wing – Concordia Prep – 2023
Gabby showed range hitting four 3-pointers, scoring a game high16 points. She moves well without the ball and has a quick release. She played consistent throughout scoring eight points and hitting two 3-pointer in each half.
Hailee Ford – 5’11” – Forward – Concordia Prep – 2023
Hailee had a nice shot with picture perfect form. She can shoot the three or stop and pop in transition. She didn’t duck the bump in the post where she showed she can drop in and play with her back to the basket with no problem. She finished with 12 points in the win.
Kylie Capes – 6’0″ – Center – Chesapeake – 2022
I hear Kylie is averaging around four steals and two blocks a game. She was able to get similar stats against the Saints. Offensively she had a nice drive and a really good drop step finishing with four points.
Alira Penn – 5’9″ – Shooting Guard – Concordia Prep – 2024
Alira showed flashes of a high level college player. She has a good pull-up jumper with nice elevation and attacks the basket with a quick first step. She has length and an athletic frame. She appeared winded early in the game bending over with her hands on her knees in virtually every break. She, however, would catch a burst of energy once she got the ball in her hands. I feel that she can be a really special player with better conditioning.
Kasey Slade – 5’11” – Center – Chesapeake – 2024
Kasey was a bright spot for Chesapeake showing consistency getting to the free throw line. She was able to cover multiple areas on the defensive end.
