Continue ReadingHoward came into this one with a two year undefeated streak and a slight favorite to beat Baltimore Poly in a game between two schools that have not been able to get over the state championship hump. Both teams felt each other out in the first quarter and Poly held a 13-10 lead after one. Poly slowly turned up the defensive intensity and expanded their lead over the next three quarters. Their stifling defense limited Howard to only 14 made field goals for the game and only three players scored for the Lions.
Trinity Massenburg, Poly, 2023, F/C
Trinity set the tone early with physical play on both ends of the court. She has a high motor and a warrior mentality so it’s non stop activity from her for the whole game. She is a legit 6’2″ and very athletic with long arms and she seeks out contact. She finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and a block.
Da’Brya Clark, Poly, 2023, Guard
Bri poured in a game high 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. She is a combo guard and moved seamlessly between postions as needed and handed out 5 assists as well. She was very active on defense, using her speed and length to disrupt Howard’s offense. She came away with 3 steals in the game. She didn’t shoot a high percentage for the game but came up with buckets when her team needed them.
Mickelle Lowry, Poly, 2024, Guard
Mickelle really gave her team a big boost offensively. She is on the small side but shoots the ball very well. She scored 13 points on 5-10 shooting including two out of 3 three pointers. She made a big shot every time Howard gained a little momentum.
Gabby Scott, Howard, 2022, Forward
Gabby shot the ball efficiently, going 4-7 with one made 3 pointer, but Poly’s aggressive defense limited her touches. She finished with 9 points and 3 rebounds for the game.
Gabrielle Kennerly, Howard, 2023 Guard
Gabby led her team in scoring with 15 points and also dished out 4 assists.
Riley Holliday, Poly, 2023, Center/Forward
Riley played a strong game, patrolling the paint and grabbing 12 rebounds, including 7 on the offensive glass. She also scored 9 points including 5 of 8 from the foul line. She is a legit six footer with range out to the three point line and plays a physical style of defense. She has good touch around the basket and good instincts and timing with her on ball defense. Her footwork is solid in the post.
