Continue ReadingThe She Got Game Classic Combine has been a success for multiple years with a focus on middle school talent. This year brought a twist as players from the third to high school seniors were invited. The result was over 170 players were in attendance with some high school and AAU programs on the sideline either poaching or babysitting their young talent. Coach Tamika Dudley (Sidwell Friends) Coach Michelle Watts (Word of Life) where the head trainers on hand along with other coaches and high school players to lead the drills. Four full courts at the prestigious St. James Complex was enough to showcase all the talent one hand. Here are some of the standouts from the day.
Alicia Newell l 5-9 l Elizabeth Seton l 2024
Alicia stood out showing good handles in the drill work and a good shot from outside. As the day went on she impressed more and more to the tune of my MVP of the Combine if I was asked to vote for one. She was pretty dominant in each session and has truly raised her stock in the 2024 class.
London Liley London Liley 5'10" | SF Maret | 2025 State MD l 5’10 l Maret l 2025
Ms. Liley was one of the camp coaches but was somehow thrown into drill work. She didn’t slack up as she handled every drill thrown at her and at the end of the day she got better for it. She could have been a participant as high school players were involved and she certainly would have been amongst the top players there.
Kristen Small Kristen Small 5'8" | SF MD l 5-7 l Rosedale Christian Academy l 2027
Kristian may well have been the best shooter in the building, She reeled of 20 straight three-pointers of the dribble using a variety of moves and stepbacks. Note that these where done without defense and during the break time but done at game speed. She spent her free time getting work in which was impressive itself and says something about her character. Now to mention she is only in the eighth grade and shooting with that accuracy is incredible.
Cai Roberson Cai Roberson 5'11" | SF Georgetown Day | 2026 State MD l 5-9 l Georgetown Day l 2026
Cai came in as one of the top incoming freshmen and she continued to impress with her shooting touch and elevation. She is a good finisher at the rim and should make an impact immediately in her freshman year for the Grasshoppers. Cai comes from a basketball family and at this pace Roberson will be a household name for the next few years or so.
Malia Siriwardene Malia Siriwardene 5'4" VA l 5-7 l Centerville l 2026
Malia has been off the radar as her team took the Covid year to just work on skills. She was impressive when I saw in the 6th and 7th grades and she continues to impress with a nice shooting for and soft touch off the dribble. She has good fakes and footwork to get her shot off in traffic.
