The featured image is of [player_tooltip player_id='178237' first='Amber' last='Tretter'] (2023) of Forest Park High School.

Now that I've spent this past week previewing each of the 16 Sectionals in Class 2A, I wanted to take a look at who I think could be the better individuals in Indiana throughout the 2022-2023 season. Taking some ideas from college preview magazines, below I've assembled a variety of preseason awards, preseason all-state teams, plus a preseason honorable mention section. I've given past years' performances some consideration, but the players below are listed based specifically on how I think they will perform this season.

TOP CLASS 2A PRESEASON AWARDS
These preseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I think stand out in Class 2A. Typically, there are multiple candidates for each award, and every award can be easily debatable, but I chose the individuals below based on who I thought filled the description the best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.

Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id='127219' first='Caitlyn' last='Campbell'], 2023, 5-11 SF, Winchester Community H.S.
- The meaning of most valuable player to me leans more towards the idea of if you removed this player from their team, how would their team continue to perform. I chose Caitlyn, because she does so much for the Golden Falcons, and she has throughout her career. She acts as their primary ball-handler, initiates the offense, finds open teammates, attacks the basket, and knocks down shots from all three levels. She'll even post up against the occasional undersized defender. Additionally, she is an active defender who disrupts passing lanes with her length and quickness. Her ability to affect every part of the game made her a standout for this award.

Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id='59732' first='Ashlynn' last='Brooke'], 2023, 5-7 PG, Pioneer H.S.
- As opposed to the most valuable player award, the most outstanding award points at simply the best basketball player in all of Class 2A, regardless of team quality, depth etc. It could be legitimately argued that Ashlynn is a candidate for MVP, but to me she is the most outstanding player over all others, and I limit these top three awards to one per player. Ashlynn is already committed to Ball State University, because she is a dynamic ball-handler, she can make tough shots against defense (and with range), and she is one of the best passers in the state, regardless of class (one of her most underrated qualities). She is a real problem for opposing teams.

Most Outstanding Newcomer: [player_tooltip player_id='201869' first='Annika' last='Davis'], 2024, 5-8 CG, Bishop Luers H.S.
- I went to a newcomer award over an outstanding Freshman award in Class 2A, because I felt like Annika would have a much greater impact for her school than any of the Class 2A Freshmen. She is a talented athlete, she has length, and she can play either guard spot equally well. She can handle it and run offense, she can knock down open shots from the perimeter, plus she's good at getting through the lane to score it around the basket. The reason I consider her a newcomer is, she transferred into Bishop Luers last year from Fort Wayne South Side, but she had to play Junior Varsity due to transfer restrictions. This year she should shine for the Knights.

ADDITIONAL CLASS 2A PRESEASON AWARDS
Toughest Player: [player_tooltip player_id='178236' first='Madelyn' last='Hackman'], 2023, Brownstown Central H.S.
Best Motor: [player_tooltip player_id='96081' first='Lizzie' last='Graham'], 2023, Triton Central H.S.
Best Shooter: [player_tooltip player_id='239351' first='Sophia' last='Morrison'], 2024, Eastbrook H.S.
Best Scorer: [player_tooltip player_id='59732' first='Ashlynn' last='Brooke'], 2023, Pioneer H.S.
Best Passer: [player_tooltip player_id='59732' first='Ashlynn' last='Brooke'], 2023, Pioneer H.S.
Best Rebounder: [player_tooltip player_id='178237' first='Amber' last='Tretter'], 2023, Forest Park H.S.
Best Shot-Blocker: [player_tooltip player_id='59743' first='Kelsey' last='DuBois'], 2023, University H.S.
Best Defender: [player_tooltip player_id='326486' first='Bradie' last='Chambers'], 2024, Linton-Stockton H.S.
Best Athlete: [player_tooltip player_id='326491' first='Kayla' last='Wilkerson'], 2024, Lake Station Edison H.S.
Most Versatile: [player_tooltip player_id='127242' first='Olivia' last='Waters'], 2023, Blackford H.S.

CLASS 2A PRESEASON ALL-STATE TEAMS
Like the preseason awards, this was another attempt to honor girls who could stand out in Class 2A during the 2022-2023 season. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it's at least easy to understand why each of the players listed below were selected to be honored. Disclaimer: Freshmen were not considered for the All-State teams, only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, however I have highlighted a few in the Honorable Mention section.

1st Team All-State
[player_tooltip player_id='127214' first='Tori' last='Allen'], 2023, 5-9 CG, Andrean H.S.
- 17.8p, 4.0r, 4.0a, 1.0s, committed to DePauw University
[player_tooltip player_id='59732' first='Ashlynn' last='Brooke'], 2023, 5-7 PG, Pioneer H.S.
- 25.9p, 3.9r, 6.7a, 3.8s, committed to Ball State University
[player_tooltip player_id='127219' first='Caitlyn' last='Campbell'], 2023, 5-11 SF, Winchester Community H.S.
- 22.2p, 7.4r, 4.4a, 3.2s
[player_tooltip player_id='178237' first='Amber' last='Tretter'], 2023, 6-1 PF, Forest Park H.S.
- 16.9p, 10.0r, 2.0a, 2.1s, 1.5b, committed to Miami University (OH)
[player_tooltip player_id='201873' first='Alli' last='Harness'], 2024, 5-8 CG, Carroll H.S.
