Let’s start with the obvious, Hardy is an elite wing with next level smoothness, length and ball skills in the open floor. Yeah, those things were evident this weekend, but we got to see even more from Hardy. She showed a toughness, strength and willingness to play through contact on her way to the rim and underneath it. All those skills combined equals scary times for future opponents.
Highlights
VanTimmeren definitely stood out with the way she played at the Summer Sweet 16 Shootout. I liked the way she used her length on defense, especially in the passing lanes. She made easy passes hard and hard passes nearly impossible. VanTimmeren rebounded high and looked comfortable in the open floor. She had the look of a versatile scorer that can play inside-out as well as outside-in.
Pickens just flat out looked really solid at the event. If you asked me to find a weakness strictly based on what I saw Saturday, I’d be hard pressed to have an answer. She handled the ball well, got it to teammates in scoring positions and shot the ball well from multiple spots on the floor. Pickens didn’t need to be ball dominant to get her buckets, as she picked and prodded and took advantage of almost every opportunity.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Anderson’s game and what she brings to the table. Her overall strength and athleticism are underrated. To the degree that I wouldn’t hesitate to call her one of the better all around athletes in the state. My biggest take away from the day may have been how well Anderson and Kayla Mount Kayla Mount 6’1″ | C Detroit Cass Tech | 2024 State MI play together and jow comfortable they are on the floor together. That’s going to be a dangerous combo come December.
Sain is an elite talent. After watching her play in Belleville, I wouldn’t dare cap what she can do long term. Sky is the limit for Sain. She’s an elite athlete that excels having the offense start with her. Sain has a lot of shiftiness and electric handles to go with it. She showed that she was a threat to shake a defender and attack the rim at any time. I was thoroughly impressed with the way she read the game and attacked the mid range in the second half.
Rodriguez has a quiet confidence about her. It’s really very impressive. She just has that look that, when she shoots, she knows it’s going in. Her straight line speed and quick feet on the defensive end were on display at the shootout. Rodriguez is going to make a lot of big buckets this year as part of one of the best and most talented backcourts in Michigan.
