This summer ball event featured some of the elite teams and players from across the state of Michigan. There was a ton of talent packed in the gym. We’re going to look at some of top players and performances that I saw at the event.
Bryant is and was everything she’s been stacked up to be. Wayne Memorial has a track record of great point guards. Camree Clegg comes to mind right off the bat as an example. But Bryant might end up as good or even the best of the bunch. It felt like she could isolate and score anytime she wanted. Bryant has an elite combination of shifty handles and a physical dribble drive.

This was the first chance I’d had to really look at Spanicciati and her game. I cam away from the Summer Sweet 16 Shootout very impressed. She had an ease of movement and a comfortability that was easily noticeable. Spanicciati showed a lot of versatility with her ability to crash the boards and defend the paint, while facing the rim and attacking as well as running the floor with the ease of an athletic wing.
Miller was the definition of the 3P’s over the weekend. Poised, patient and productive. I’ll stand by this statement and you can screenshot it if you’d like: She looks like a high major talent to me. Miller is a terrific outside shooter and great decision maker. I might have been the most impressed this weekend with her ability to attack off the bounce. Miller showed that she could score from mid range as well as play off contact.

Mount was one of the most impressive players in the gym. She was an absolute beast in the paint and is a game changer down low. Mount was strong enough and physical enough to constantly win position on or near the block. And she didn’t just win position down low, she also made the most of it. Mount had nice touch on the ball and scored at a very high percentage. She’s going to be a big problem for opponents for the foreseeable future.
I was thoroughly impressed with the way that Williams played at the Summer Sweet 16 Shootout. Her skill set and court demeanor fit incredibly nicely with the Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard system and roster. Williams provided a lot of strength and muscle. She was able to put her back to the basket and score over her left shoulder. Williams was also able to face the rim and run the floor. She’s improved her overall athleticism a ton.
Blumberg showed that she’s a very talented prospect that can play with the best in the state. Quite frankly, the offense was at it’s best when it was running through Blumberg on Saturday. She showed that she could handle the ball like a lead guard, as well as step off the ball and be a primary scorer. I was impressed with her ability to find and create shots at all 3 levels.
