It was a two day event, and I was able to catch day 2 of the competition. Here are the playmakers from the event that really made their names known throughout the gym.
McKenzie Graves McKenzie Graves 5’7″ | CG North Raleigh Christian Academy | 2025 State NC had some nice looks inside being able to see the court and find her open teammate underneath the hoop from the top of the key. She can slide over to get open or create her own open space to put up her shot. She was certainly the floor general for her team knowing how to direct her teammates and make some plays. On defense, she anticipated passes grabbing the steal. She had a nice spin move in the paint losing her defender and pulling up for some points on a fast break off a steal.
Highlights
Ashanti Fox Ashanti Fox 5’6″ | CG O’Neal | 2025 State NC sees the floor so well being able to drop the perfect pass into her teammates even when running full speed up the court. She is quick with the ball pushing the tempo and making some nice decisions on where to pull up for her shot including hitting a floater at full speed in the paint. She even showed off her ability to block shots hustling back on defense getting the stop in transition. As you can see, the only speed she knows is full speed.
Maya McCorkle Maya McCorkle 5’9″ | CG Cannon | 2025 State NC was attacking the basket using power dribbles to score on the block. She’s quick getting her hands in the way on defense knocking the ball away, and she was getting inside for rebounds on both ends of the court. She even did well guarding a post player on the other end showing her strength on multiple levels of the court. My favorite part about how McCorkle has been playing is how much joy she has doing it at a high level.
Kylie Torrence Kylie Torrence 6’1″ | SF High Point Christian | 2025 State NC was controlling the boards on both ends going up high to get the rebound, and she didn’t lose the ball even with contact maintaining possession for her team. She flashes all over the court pulling defenders with her opening up the court for her teammates or attacking the gaps herself to get the pass. She had a great offensive rebound and putback late in a close game scoring through contact for a three point play.
Jaida McClure Jaida McClure 5’9″ | PG Providence Day | 2026 State NC scored the first five points for her team attacking the basket with ease. She had some nice old fashioned three point plays, too. She had a beautiful pass up the court perfectly dropping right where her teammate needed to catch it to score in stride on a fast break. She sees the floor so well making the pass to her cutting teammates.
Brianna Carelock Brianna Carelock 5’5″ | PG Northside Christian | 2026 State NC is so shifty with the ball attacking the basket and losing defenders in the process. She can battle through contact for some points at the rim. It’s clear why her teammates always want the ball in her hands. Speaking of hands, on defense, she is constantly deflecting passes and making stops gaining the possession for her team again. She has a nice stroke from deep as well.
