A player can’t determine if they will grow to be 7 feet tall or have a 40 inch vertical at the end of their careers but they can determine how they will use the abilities they DO have. Below are five athletes out of the 2027 class in Nebraska that have displayed elite athletic ability on the court, all while having some superior basketball skill-set’s mixed in.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Raeann Massey Raeann Massey 5’7″ | PG Fort Calhoun | 2027 NE has displayed a great handle and feel for the game, in the contests in which I had the privilege of seeing her compete this AAU season. Massey is an interesting prospect. A prospect with a bunch of potential while looking at her future on the court. Massey is a competitor. A player that is going to give it her all and get on the floor every chance possible. There are two general types of point guards out there, scoring and assisting. I would like to say that Massey is a mix between both of those. She can score when need be but doesn’t rely on it for her teams offense. She is more of an orchestrator or coach on the floor in my opinion. Like I said, Massey is interesting. Her progression over the next few years will be important but as for now, she is on the right track.

Rowan Swartz Rowan Swartz 5’7″ | SG Elkhorn South | 2027 NE is a shooting guard that is going to see the varsity floor her freshman year and that is going to tell us everything we need to know about where she stands currently against her competition. Swartz is a 5’7 shooting guard with disciplined balance and shot form. She is able to let it go on the floor off of the catch or she can pull up off of the dribble, it doesn’t really matter. As a guard with this shooting ability, she also has a good amount of counter-moves to her game. She can pump fake fake name | 2027 NE and dribble into a different pull-up shot she likes or she can get all the way to the middle of the lane for a basket or assist near the rim. I think this Elkhorn South high school team has a promising future ahead of themselves over the next few years with the culture they are providing and the players they have coming in. If they all stay dedicated and keep working hard, we are going to hear about them a few more times as the high school season gets going here in a few months.

An individual with an eye-opening mixture of size, skill, and athleticism is Lexie Pearce Lexie Pearce 5’8″ | SF Abraham Lincoln | 2027 IA . Pearce is a Forward with decent height for her age. She is the type of Forward that is versatile on the floor with her abilities and I expect that to become blanttenly obvious over the next few years. Pearce’s size and skillset is going to evolve. At the end of her high school career I would put Pearce as being a combo guard because of her ability to handle the ball and move to the outside of the three point line, whenever she needs to spread out the defense. If she were to grow a few month inches and put on some muscle while evolving her skill-set these next few years, we are talking about an efficient college basketball player for some lucky program out there. We will just have to wait and see how things play out though. Pearce can only control so much and that’s all she should worry about. What she can control.

You want to talk about promise as it pertains to size and skill on the court then look no further than Gueryn Kay Gueryn Kay 5’9″ | PG Blair | 2027 NE . Kay is a 5’9 point guard that can do a little bit of everything on the floor. She can handle the ball and run her teams offense, she can score in the blink of an eye against weak defenders, she can rebound over players that are alike to her in size, and she can defend almost any position at the moment other then against a true center. With all these abilities I would have to say that Kay’s most promising spot on the floor is at the point position. With the mixture of size and the handle she has, along with the knowledge of when to do what with the ball in her hands, it’s not crazy to see that her future could be very bright. I’m curious how she will fair for her freshman year at Blair high school but if it’s anything like what I’ve seen on film, she is going to do just fine and be a name to know moving forward this winter.
