On Day 2 of the State Girls Basketball Tournament in Des Moines, I had the opportunity to sit and watch all the games in real time. During those games, I ended up writing down some "live" notes about a few of the prospects on the floor and their performances. In this article, I cover some of those athletes and what I thought about watching them live yesterday.

[player_tooltip player_id='314120' first='Hailey' last='Miller'] - 2024 - 5'7 - SG - Solon High School

"[player_tooltip player_id='314120' first='Hailey' last='Miller'] is inevitable. The past two season, Miller has been a prospect from the Solon Spartans that has impressed everyone watching. You could say that this Spartan's team, lives and dies with their PG, [player_tooltip player_id='246099' first='Callie' last='Levin'] but it's their role players that matter the most. Miller being one of them. At this point, I don't even think you can call Miller a role player anymore. She is a star. She is someone that is just as active on the ball as Levin and her play-style yields positive results. We saw it first hand today. When Levin wasn't getting shots to fall, Miller stepped up hitting some big buckets. She has collegiate level talent and I hope she realizes that because several others agree."

[player_tooltip player_id='839333' first='Avery' last='Wilson'] - 2026 - 5'9 - SG - Sioux Central High School

"Wilson is an impressive Guard that understands her role within her own program. She isn't afraid to let it go from deep at any moment but she also understands when something is being forced. As it pertains to the Guard Play on Day 2 at the State Tournament, Wilson has been one of the most impressive. Her shooting stroke and ability to adapt has been elite. The way she can make plays for the others around her is eye-opening at times."

[player_tooltip player_id='777226' first='Maryn' last='Franken'] - 2027 - 6'0 - CG - Sioux Center High School

"[player_tooltip player_id='777226' first='Maryn' last='Franken'] was a prospect that I knew about coming into the State Tournament but after her First Round performance, I am thoroughly impressed. Franken is the Swiss-Army Knife to her team. Sometimes she will bring up the ball as the PG, sometimes she will come down the floor as the SG. She rebounds better than most other Guards I've seen at this age and it's noticeable. All in all, Franken's ceiling is much higher than some might realize. She is about to be a Top 10 Player out of her 2027 Class for a reason and that's been on full display today."

[player_tooltip player_id='545646' first='Ava' last='Locklear'] - 2024 - 5'11 - SF/CG - Clear Creek Amana High School

"Exactly what you would expect. Locklear has basically been the same producer the past four seasons for the CCA Clippers and that has been the case in their First Round matchup. In a game that has been all Clippers, Locklear almost had a triple-double in her efforts. When I originally evaluated Locklear three years ago, I would have never imagined this is where we would be at today. She is soooo much better than advertised. She is really going to kill it at the next level if put in the right situation. If CCA wins it all this week, I would expect Locklear to be Tournament and Championship Game - MVP."

[player_tooltip player_id='311383' first='Abby' last='Tuttle'] - 2025 - 5'9 - PG - North Polk High School

"Tuttle is going to be a crafty Guard at the next level after her high school career comes to a close. She just makes things happen. She is the most comfortable driving right or pulling up from deep but she is also a solid facilitator in the open court. One of her best abilities is her patience. At times, when she is attacking off the dribble, she understands to attack full speed, stopping on the drop of a dime and counter going the other way whenever her defender is overplaying one specific side. If we want to talk about one of the most seasoned and well tempered prospects at this tournament this week, Tuttle is in that discussion."

[player_tooltip player_id='1005087' first='Brooke' last='Larsen'] - 2025 - 5'11 - F - Lewis Central High School

"Larsen's team may have had the task of facing Bishop Heelan in Round One but that doesn't mean that she didn't play a good game. When the final buzzer sounded, Larsen had an impressive 24 Points and 14 Rebounds. This was a classic situation where you could tell that LC was outmatched-personal wise. The Crusaders just had too many offensive weapons, while LC only really relied on Larsen's production. Which, her production was impressive. She is a prospect that we didn't know too much about before yesterday but that has all changed. If you had her in the correct system with other weapons, she could be a killer in moderation. I mean, look what she did yesterday against a team with multiple collegiate level players, so it really makes me wonder what Larsen's ceiling could be but no matter. I'm impressed with Larsen and her play on Day 2."

[player_tooltip player_id='777232' first='Melina' last='Snoozy'] - 2027 - 6'0 - CG - Bishop Heelan High School

"As good as advertised. Coming into this season Snoozy had 4-5 Division 1 offers but I wasn't sure if I should believe the hype. After watching her yesterday, I can confidently say, you should believe the hype. Snoozy is a 5'11-6'0 Combo Guard, who can do it all. Doesn't matter where you put her on the floor, she is going to kill it and anyone who is guarding her. When this team makes it to the State Title game later this week, I wouldn't be surprised if Snoozy wins the MVP if they pull out the Championship. She is that good and she has been that much of a difference maker up until this point. She sure was in their 30 point win in Round One."
