The 17U and 16U national teams are particularly intriguing to me and are going to be difficult to beat. Let’s take a look at some of the shooters to watch from those teams.
Alyssa Hankerson has had a fantastic season with 1 of 1 Prep this year, and she is certainly lighting the nets on fire with the way she can knock down her shots from around the arc. She does the work without the ball being able to shoot off the pass, and she can certainly go to work off the dribble attacking the basket to finish at the rim. She’s tough on defense, too, putting excellent full court pressure on her opponents.
Samantha Shehan surpassed her 1000th point this season with Lake Norman, and she’s been doing it by scoring on all three levels throughout her career. Her ability to quickly release her shot with confidence is difficult for others to guard, and she doesn’t stop moving looking for the next opening. She can get to the basket, too, showing off some nice footwork and floaters to score her points in the paint.
Highlights
Summer Thomason moves well on offense finding the openings, so she can put up her shot right off the pass. She flashes in and out of the paint, too, shifting the defense, and she crashes the boards on both ends going after rebounds for her team. She runs the floor well staying ready for the pass in transition, and she makes nice adjustments going up against hands in her face to score her points at the rim.
Kate Schindler continued to make a splash for her Marvin Ridge team this year doing a little bit of everything for her team on offense. She can handle the ball bringing it up the court setting up offensive plays. She can create her own space knocking down her shot from deep, and she can easily flash in the paint for the pass and bucket. Her court awareness makes her special to watch as she can get nice passes to her teammates for their own points.
Miley Malcolm is another lengthy guard Lady Attack Elite has who is a sure bet to knock down her shots from around the arc. She elevates up and over her competition whether she is showing off her three pointers, or she is getting inside to put up her floaters. She doesn’t back down from contact in the paint, too, using her ball handling to get the angle she wants and points her team needs. Her hands are constantly causing some problems on defense knocking the ball out of the passing lanes.
