The MDPSSBT girls quarter finals had for games and three of them were thrillers. The opener featured #2 seed Bullis against #7 Holy Child. This was supposed to be a walk off victory for the Bulldogs but Holy Child had them on the ropes for 31 of the 32 minutes before sophomore Kai Powell Kai Powell 5'8" | SG Bullis | 2026 State MD nailed two free throws to clinch the 69-64 victory.
Standout Players:
Jaeda shot the ball at a high percentage dropping 31 points in the loss. She shot tremendously well from beyond the arc going 6-7 from the three. She did whatever she wanted against the Bulldogs and gave it her all as she was stretched out on the floor in the closing minute being helped up by her teammates. She is a senior headed to Marquette who struck gold recruiting her when they did.
Ivanna dropped 26 points and 15 boards in this one. She is one of the top freshmen in the country and she continues to prove it against all levels of competition. She is a very good finisher with great elevation and can knock down the three.
Riverdale Baptist gave St. Frances Academy a good game for three quarters before falling by five point. I was really impressed by intensity of play by the Panthers and the Crusaders as well as they erased an 11 point deficit to start the fourth quarter, cutting the game to one point in the final minute.
Standout Players:
Zoe showed a nice touch around the basket and physical play inside. She showed great body control catching a rebound alley-oop while adjusting her body to finish. She finished with a double double.
Amora was a terror on the defensive end and her speed on offense was too much for everyone Riverdale threw at her. She dropped a couple of three pointers and controlled the pace of the game.
Ariana had a monster 20 point double double. She most likely gained some offers from the college coaches on hand in this game. She has good size and plays well with her back to the basket. She surprised me knocking down an open three pointer but her real work was dominating the paint against a real 6’3″ guarding her.
Bishop McNamara dominated Rosedale Christian in the only blowout of the night. The Mustangs played a huge chunk of their game with their third string and kept the same intensity as they had with their starters winning 94-43.
Standout Players:
KiKi Scott
KiKi Scott
KiKi the sophomore scored her 1000th point in this contest. I need to repeat that, KiKi the sophomore scored her 1000th point in this contest. Rosedale was overmatched but credit to them that they do not back down from any challenge as they are the go to team to get in your tournament, She finished the game with 9 points which lead the teams and a couple of plays that exited her fan base that made the trip to Upper Marlboro,
Logan was perfect from the line going 6 for 6 and added a team high 9 rebounds to her stat sheet. She showed a knack of finding where the ball would be as five of her boards were on the offensive end.
Highlights
Chyanne showed that she has a lot of value to add making plays in this game and was perfect from the field. She is known for her sniper ability from beyond the arc but this game she did her scoring around the basket.
Mt. Zion and Elizabeth Seton was a highly anticipated game and it didn’t disappoint in the end. At one point it looked like the Roadrunners were going to get blown out until their 23-10 fourth quarter run cut the game to one point with under a minute to play.
Standout Players:
J’Niya was everything in this game. It’s not that she scored 26 points in this game but it’s the way she did it. She played both ends of the floor adding 7 boards and 7 steals. She also shot the three and got to the line. Her upcoming game against Bullis should be interesting.
Alicia showed a nice mix of skill and athleticism. She has a high motor and covers a lot of ground on defense. She has been dealing with a hand injury all season but you’d never know by her play. She almost singlehandedly willed her team to a win.
