Continue ReadingThis will be our first time mentioning and going into detail about prospects out of the 2028 Class in Iowa. The five prospects that we are going to highlight in this article are all players that will step up and compete on the Varsity level at some point during the 2024-2025 high school season. Each individual has shown on several different occasions this past year that they can play at a high rate, while making the others around them better.
As you can tell, the players that are mentioned below will be highly considered for being ranked within the Top 5 of this 2028 Class when that Ranking Update comes around. Please note, just because a player is not mentioned in this piece, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t in the running. This situation is fluid and can change in the blink of an eye depending on the next 6-8 months.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Unless someone comes out of nowhere, that I am unaware of and they absolutely go crazy this next few months, Jhaliana Guy Jhaliana Guy 5’10” | PG Bettendorf | 2028 IA of Bettendorf High School is going to start off the 2028 Update as being the #1 ranked player for this Class. Guy is a 5’10 Combo Guard, that excels in every part of the game from what I’ve seen so far. She will start high school with a handful of D1 offers and a TON of D1 interest. She has taken several visits across the country these past few months to some prestigious universities that are attempting to recruit her. Places such as Louisville, Maryland, Stanford, and Mississippi State, while fielding calls from several more programs trying to set up a visit. Guy’s skill is next level but where she stands out to me is athletically. The ground she covers when she picks up the ball is noteworthy. Whenever she has a chance in 1v1 situations she can either shoot over her defender, take them off the dribble and finish through contact, or she can post up smaller opponents. I’ve seen some impressive 2028 Players this past few years but Guy is by far the most impressive out of Iowa. Where she could take things is anywhere she wants. She never stops working and that’s just a testament of who she is as an individual. I’m excited to see how far she will be able to take things as every college in the country is going to be interested over the next few years.

Paige Andernacht Paige Andernacht 5’11” | C Johnston | 2028 IA is going to be joining up with the returning 5A State Champs in the Johnston Dragons but I have a feeling that she could see the floor as a Freshman. She will obviously be playing behind some talent in Amani Jenkins Amani Jenkins 6’2″ | C Johnston | 2025 State IA but if she is put on the court in spurts, she could show her worth to this program almost immediately. Andernacht is a 5’11/6 Forward, who has balanced, coordination, a soft touch, and physicality. I’ve had the chance to see her compete against kids her age and even against prospects that were a few years older then her for about a year now. In those contests, she is always doing the most and producing on both sides of the floor out of the Post. Her physical prowess is dominant for her age and she understands situational basketball to a T. If she ever has a chance with her back to the basket with a 1 on 1 matchup, she is usually going to score a majority of the time. Up until this point, Andernacht hasn’t received college interest but all in due time. I’m sure over these next few seasons, she is going to be a hot commodity for recruiters looking at prospects out of the 2028 Class in Iowa.

I didn’t know too much about Victoria Burpo Victoria Burpo 6’0″ | PF Waukee NW | 2028 IA until this past 6 months but what I’ve seen since then has been special. Burpo has size. Size that you cannot teach at this point in the game. She is standing at 6’0 and she has the muscle mass to go along with it. She has a strong demeanor while being relentless in the rebound department. This Winter she will be suiting up with Waukee NW for her high school career. If she ends up getting some Varsity playing time and her guards can create, she is going to be very productive for this Wolves squad. Her presence in the middle is something that opposing players have to worry about once they get to the middle of the lane as she is pretty good at coming over to help from the far side defensively. Burpo just has that combination that all coaches love. She works hard, she never gives up on a play, she has a great attitude, she is over 6’0, and she can finish at the rim through contact on a consistent basis. If she stays on this path of progression these next few seasons, she will be a top tier prospect out of this Class moving forward.
If we are speaking about Abbajay Peters Abbajay Peters 5’6″ | PG Waukee | 2028 IA and her play-style, it’s seasoned for only being a prospect that hasn’t seen a Varsity minute yet. Peters is very quick both with and without the ball in her hands. She gets down the floor in a hurry and she is someone that can be moved around to any Guard position on the floor at this point. I would more so describe her game as a PG but if she plays off the ball, she seems to be just as productive. She is good enough to be able to attack her defender off the dribble going either way, while being crafty enough to finish in a plethora of different ways around the bucket. She competed in the Hoop Life Showcase that I happened to attend a few months ago and I was impressed. She displayed experience, skill, and a lot of heart. She doesn’t have any glaring holes in her game and she is lethal in specific situations. Peters will join a program that has a lot of solid prospects in the Waukee Warriors. I’m not sure if she will play Varsity right away but if she does, it wouldn’t surprise me.
