Game Watched: Krush Queens vs CyFair Elite OKC
After the Krush Queens ‘ slow start, it was the blistering shooting of Brown that pulled them even and eventually ahead in their win. She was a zone buster from deep, while also understanding how to get into the pockets of the zone and do damage in the mid-range as well. Brown also helped close out the game with a patient drive that saw her shift gears before finishing through contact for a hoop and the harm. The skilled scoring chops of the rising Carl Albert sophomore were definitely on display in this contest.

Geretta had a strong first half as a pacy lead guard who applied on the ball pressure defensively, while also pressuring as a down hill threat on offense. More than just speed when attacking, she showed great footwork and change of pace ability when attacking. That included one big time move where she drove, pump faked, had the defender guessing, pivoted back and drilled the 8-10 footer. The good pace and awareness she plays with was also apparent when she ended the first half pushing the tempo and knocking down a mid-range jumper just before the horn sounded. Along with her quality next level athleticism, it was impressive to see the variety of ways she can score.

Earlier today, Hjelmstad pulled the trigger on her college decision joining Utah. During multiple viewings of the high level prospect this past high school season, she shot it good but never great. This was a truly great first half shooting performance that showed why along with her size, toughness and high basketball IQ, the rising junior is an ELITE prospect. She buried four triples in the first half of the contest. With her fourth possibly being the most impressive, as she hit as a trailer, where the defense closed out quickly. But Hjelmstad’s release was even quicker and her shot was pure. With her shooting stroke, size and apparently unflappable manner, the future Ute is well set up for next level success.

The other half of Unity’s elite shooting duo, it was Megehee’s big shots that helped take them home to a victory in the second half. She knocked down a go ahead three late, which was the capper of a brilliant second half shooting performance from deep and the mid-range. Along with the strong perimeter shooting, she capped the game off by punishing the defense for overplaying her with a good take to the rim. After watching the Tulsa commitment have a tough time in the 3A State Tournament, it was great to see her at the peak of her next level scoring powers fitting in well with her loaded AAU squad.

The first note made about Benally was simple “Wicked crossover, made help defender slide over, easy dime”. Even on a computer screen, her quickness and ballhandling ability screams loudly. She often kept the ball on a string throughout the game, especially as she can play at a breakneck pace or slow it down and make patient reads against drop coverage in ball screen situations. Along with the maestro type work as a point guard, she knocked down a couple corner threes, and even took a charge.

It wasn’t the best shooting performance for McDowell, but she’s type of hustle player who can leave her mark on a game even when quieter as a scorer. From jumping passing lanes, to being the one to hustle back and makes plays at the rim, the Collsinville guard was non stop energy. On offense, she was also the player often making the correct pass in transition, which speaks to her ability to impact the game by doing the little things. The one three she did connect on was a pure looking catch and shoot make, so the rising sophomore will require further viewing.

Curry mixes quick hands on defense with quick feet on offense to be a speedy player who is a handful when getting downhill. Often her burst left defenders in the dust, but when she did face opposition at the rim she was still a good finisher. With scoop shots and others ways to use angles to avoid taller defenders. Her speed and tenacity was most apparent during a stretch where she took it to the rim in the halfcourt. Then seconds later, Curry forced a turnover in the backcourt and scored another two points. Little spurts like that are capable of changing games and that’s what the tenacious lead guard provides.
