Tennessee Expo Talent: Rising Stars in Girls Basketball

That's the one word that comes to mind walking away from the Tennessee Expo event this past weekend. I came away impressed by the talent this state possesses. Everyone may not be D1 caliber, however, thinking about girls playing at the next level, there are plenty of young ladies who are talented that could be solid foundational pieces for schools all around.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As the days roll by, we are getting closer to that November 4th date when official practices start. Basketball season is just around the corner. The Expo this weekend saw a lot of talented young ladies show up to showcase their skill sets. It was good to see the state's talent in one location. The blend of talent was on point as girls from all parts of the state game together to hoop. Amazing. You better believe it. There were some true hoopers out there who dazzled the crowd.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Just like you, I love the game of basketball. The game brings a diverse talent to the floor, all with one common goal. On display this weekend, I came away impressed with a lot of individuals whose stock is ascending higher and higher in my opinion. What do I mean you might ask? I saw young ladies who might have been overlooked or poised to have a breakout year compete with some of the state's best. Now I will say, some clubs or schools may get more headlines than most. Some teams are stacked, leaving girls against the odds. This event truly allowed kids to be creative and just hoop. That's what I love about the game. The freedom to come together and express yourself using the roundball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This weekend at The Expo Event, we came away impressed as all get out. She can facilitate the rock in transition, attack gaps and challenge bigs, leave her open, she'll knock it down from the arc. Plays solid defense, getting steals and was on the floor for loose balls. Loved the heart and hustle she brought to the showcase as she was stellar in all phases of the game. Played with great tempo, her ability to get to the rim was impressive. On the defensive head, anything that came into the paint, it was contested or swatted away. Offensively, she was phenomenal on the inside, going through the opposition to finish high % shots. She spotted up on the perimeter, where she knocked down a couple of big-time 3s. Was utilized well in the screen game. Physical. You talking about someone who will give you the work on both ends and make it tough, this is that kid. Nice back to the basket moves, solid, strong, physical around the paint, she was a tough matchup as she finished around the rim. Loved her hustle and ability to grab boards. She can battle guards as well as defend inside players. As a nice stroke from 3, but will also put it on the floor either finishing at the rim or pulling up in the mid-range. Possesses nice speed and quickness, which she displayed on both ends of the floor. When she is on, she is on. The Lady Tigers of Ensworth really do have a gem on their hands. She is a selfless ballplayer who hunts great shots and can be solid on the defensive side of the ball. Love how she is so poised with the ball. Didn't rush things, made solid plays, found the right shooter at the right time. Coming off screens, she made nice passes or found her shot with ease. Going into year 2 of high school ball, she's been battle tested and you can see how calm she is with the ball in her hands. This kid has a nice face up game, where she can shoot it from the mid-range, or put it on the floor to go get a basket. She was big on the boards, launching herself to get the ball at its highest point. In her post up game, she used different counter moves on her way to the cup. The kid is dominant on the interior. Look for her to be a stellar presence for Knox Webb. Malon is a hard nosed defender who gets after it on the defensive end. Had a couple of solid stops that led to easy buckets going the other way. Offensively, she can knock it down from 3 or slice through the defense on her way to the rim. Heady ball player with great handles.
