Lipscomb Academy: Aiming for a Breakout Season

Time to saddle up Lady Mustangs, this should be a fun ride. There is a lot of hype around this program going into this year. For starters, they are a year older and experienced. This club competed in each and every contest last year. Majority of their players were first and second year underclassmen getting valuable minutes. Now that the girls have been battle tested, this season looks to have a different outcome. There is a buzz at the academy off of Granny White. With some new pieces added to the team, the girls seem poised to have a breakout year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Led by coach Becky Starks, this club gets after it, fighting tooth and nail. This club plays solid, executes, and is always looking to attack. This club is fundamentally sound and can shoot the lights out. Last year, the club took their lumps, posting a 16-14 overall record, going 6-7 in the district. Just like anything else, it takes time to build something successful. This club is ready to take that next step. Coach Starks and staff are feeling optimistic and the girls are eyeing a top 4 finish. Rome wasn't built in a day and these girls have laid a solid foundation for a program that is ready to take off.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The division race will be tight but I expect Lipscomb to be in each and every match. With the additional pieces added, this should give the Lady Mustangs an edge both mentally and talent wise. Look for them to come out the gates and make some noise early. They have a favorable schedule, one that will surely build confidence heading into district play. This multi-level scoring threat is a gamer. A gym rat who can do multiple things in finding ways to put the ball in the hole. Any hoop heads out there remember Reggie Miller, well in my mind, this kid can score it just like him. She can come off screens, create her own shot, she just finds ways to sink the ball in the bottom of the net. She will sit down and guard on the defensive end as well. Blessed with size and length she can beat you on the inside as well as on the perimeter. She has a nice mid-range jumper that she will unleash from the elbows. She hustles, plays hard each possession, and will do anything in her power to come up with loose ball opportunities. This summer, she has  been working on her craft, perfecting her 3 point marksmanship. Leah is a 3pt threat that won't hesitate to put the ball on the floor if need be. She contributes on the boards, makes timely assists, and just competes. She's the ultimate teammate and will look to help spark her club anytime. The talented forward played tenacious defense, slowing down the opposition. She contributed on the offensive end, getting high percentage shots and knocking down 3s from the perimeter. Her play seemed to spring confidence in her ball club as she always seems to do the little things right. A selfless player who contributes all across the board. Scoring, rebounds, assists, you name it. Blake doesn't know how good she can be, she just goes out there and competes. A multi-level scoring threat who is poised with the basketball in her hands. She has gained confidence in her ball handling, where she will create to get downhill. What coaches rave about her is her ability to defend, willing to match up against the opponent's best player. This kid is talented and continues to get better. Macey can shoot it from the perimeter, get paint touches, but her facilitation game is on point. A strong low post player who can power her way through the opposition to score a basket. She's big time in the screen game and can finish around the blocks. She's physical on the defensive end, where she doesn't allow the opposition to get comfortable. She's a dawg on the defensive end, creating havoc along the way. Defensively, she is going to own the boards, block shots, make it tough for opponents to operate. She comes to a LA program looking to help propel them to the next level. With her size and her ability to change the course of the game, look for her to take the DII division by storm. She is a beast on the boards and can defend her tail off.
