This most recent update had several changes with a lot of prospects moving around on the Ranking board. We are coming off of a Spring AAU season that just ended and now we have had the chance to see what prospects can do for their second year at the Varsity level, as well as for their AAU programs.

In this piece we highlight the new Top Five for the 2028 Class prior to this Summer AAU season. Each player brings a unique talent to the floor and they each possess the ability to compete at the next level if they so choose, if they aren't committed already.

Coming into this Update and holding onto the #1 spot for the 2028 Class is PG/CG, [player_tooltip player_id='643486' first='Jhaliana' last='Guy'] of Clinton High School and Mac Irvin Fire AAU out of the city of Chicago. Guy is a next-level talent with an extremely high ceiling while looking toward the future. She stands out to anyone spectating when she participates because of her athletic ability but when you notice that she is also extremely skilled with the basketball in her hands, you see the future potential. Guy is a Stanford commit, coming off of a hard fought Team USA mini camp last month and she checks off almost every box a college coach could want in a future prospect. She just needs to keep getting 1% better everyday. If she does that, we'll be seeing her in a National spotlight before you know it.

[player_tooltip player_id='883552' first='Braylyn' last='Birmingham'] is one of the only other players out of the 2028 Class in Iowa that has a D1 offer so far and that is because of her mixture of length, strength, smarts, and willingness to get her hands dirty. If you want to be "that" player on the hardwood, you have to be willing to get physical at every position and Birmingham does that. She is someone that can play the 1, 2, or 3 and she will produce results no matter where she is at. She is more of a natural 2/3 in my eyes but over-time I think she could really do anything at the guard spot that might be asked of her. This Spring Birmingham has been making game winning plays and doing her best on the road. That's why she is continuing to see D1 interest moving into this Summer and why she stays as the #2 rated 2028 in Iowa moving into July.

Someone that is still a very interesting prospect for this Class is SG, [player_tooltip player_id='880913' first='Kelli' last='Kalb']. Kalb fits the role of a 2, 3, or 4 because of her size, agile movement, and her soft touch on the basketball. Offensively, when Kalb lets it fly from deep, it usually looks like it's going in. If not, it's always a clean attempt. She has also proven that she can score with her size within 15FT of the bucket in the midrange or in the post if she gets a favorable match-up. Defensively, Kalb is solid. She can handle her own and switch onto most matchups depending on the situation. She is not a liability or someone that takes plays off. She jumps to help-side pretty well and that helps her team's stack up the stops. All in all, Kalb should be a D1 prospect. It's just figuring out to which program.

Waukee NW surprised a lot of people last Winter as they made the 5A State Tournament but this is something everyone should get used to because the Wolves are loaded up again to run it back for years to come. One of their most promising hoopers being soon to be Sophomore, [player_tooltip player_id='1092007' first='Sadie' last='McCann']. McCann is a 5'10 CG that doesn't need a lot of space to operate. She can make things happen in the blink of an eye when the clock is dwindling down, no matter who is matched up against her. If this past twelve months has been any indication, this is someone to know if you don't already.

[player_tooltip player_id='880903' first='Addie' last='McLaughlin'] is going to sneak into the Top Five in this Update after having a really nice Spring AAU season with her [program_tooltip program_id='712377' first='All' last='Iowa Attack'] EYBL 15U program. McLaughlin took the Varsity floor and led her team to the State Tournament last season with very little help. She was one of her team's top two dawgs and she made the most of every chance she was given. McLaughlin is a next level PG, that can also light the nets on fire with her jump shooting ability. As of most recent, she received her first Division-1 offer to Eastern Illinois. This is her first but won't be her last. I'm sure she will end this Summer with a handful of D1 offers. She just needs to continue to do her thing into Nike Nationals next month.
