On Friday, August 1st, I headed over to Saginaw Valley State to watch their final elite camp. The format included transition drills, shooting, 3v3, 5v5, offensive concepts, defensive concepts, and many opportunities for athletes to show what they can do! Here are eight prospects whose all-around performance during the drills and games stood out.

Isabelle's dynamic dribble and shifty style have stood out every time I've watched her compete--SVSU Elite Camp was no different. Her explosive quickness and crafty ball-handling came to life during the 3v3 segment. She blew by a defender off the bounce to score a reverse layup and finished an impressive veer layup off the glass. Isabelle drove with a burst downhill, used a quick spin dribble, faked the shot, then scored the layup using a step-through pivot. She faked a pass and avoided a defender on the drive to finish a tough angled layup. Isabelle used a killer crossover move to accelerate past the defender and finished with another layup in top gear. She continued to score layups during 5v5 and is going to be a marquee point guard prospect at the PGH Freshman Showcase.

Aislyn was the most imposing front-court prospect on the floor at the SVSU Elite Camp. She had fantastic footwork in the paint, towered above opposing forwards, and her physical profile looked ready for the college level. Aislyn finished bunnies around the basket efficiently, protected the rim as a shot-blocker, and gave her team the advantage as a rebounder/low-post scoring option. Keeping her from getting to her spots was a tall task and she buried a three-pointer in the slot. Aislyn is a Canadian prospect who should have some serious college interest.

J.B. was one of the most athletic prospects in the gym at the SVSU Elite Camp. Her strong lead passes were among the best in the group during the 1-up drill. During the 3v3 segment, she showcased her quickness off the dribble and ability to get to the rim. J.B. used a quick spin move with a crossover dribble to score a layup and used a nice crossover jab move to create a driving lane. She blocked a shot, knocked down a mid-range pull-up, and went by again for a left-handed layup. During 5v5, J.B. pushed the ball the length of the court with speed to score a high pick-up layup with her left hand, then made a nice catch and finish layup off two feet. J.B. had a solid day and will be an exciting prospect to watch with Renni this winter.

Maya was dynamic with the ball in her hands at the SVSU Elite Camp. She made smart backdoor cuts during the eleven-man drill and finished with a soft touch off the glass. Maya attacked hard downhill to score layups during 3v3 and continued to stand out during 5v5. She used a shifty double-crossover dribble to create space from a defender and scored a left-handed layup after a step-through pivot. Maya scored two layups off two feet and buried a confident corner triple. She looks ready to have a big season for Holt.

Elizabeth has length, mobility, and basketball skills that will make her a highly sought-after front-court prospect when it's all said and done. She separated herself as a top forward prospect at the SVSU Elite Camp, starting with the eleven-man drill. Elizabeth scored a backdoor layup, finishing a drop-step layup with her left hand off two feet, and added a high-handed block in the paint. During the 3v3 segment, she scored an offensive rebound put back, tied up an unsuspecting dribbler on a double-team, and deflected a shot attempt with textbook wall-up defense. Elizabeth scored a soft jump-hook during 5v5, and she will be a top post prospect in the SVL this winter.

Baylor had another solid day at the SVSU Elite Camp. Her strong passes during the one-up drill were among the best in the group. Baylor forced the help to commit to her crossover dribble and dished a perfect pass to a cutting teammate for the assist during 3v3. She finished layups off the dribble through contact and cut backdoor for another one. Baylor continued to separate herself during 5v5. She used a hard rip move to score off two feet, finished an offensive rebound with a layup, scored another contested layup, and added a reverse. Baylor drove hard to the basket and dished a bounce pass on the money for the assist. She's consistently been a top player in many events over the past several months.

Kaiya's basketball IQ, fundamental skills, leadership, and court presence separate her as a prospect. At the SVSU Elite Camp, I made the statement that if Kaiya were not out there, the gym would have been as silent as a library. Her communication, even during 3v3 games on defense, was non-stop. Kaiya continuously showered teammates with positive words and actively talked throughout the camp. That's how college players and teams communicate. She demonstrated a high-level understanding of the drills and had great chemistry with her teammates during 3v3. Kaiya scored through contact, threw accurate passes, pursued rebounds, and played great defense. She's an outstanding point guard prospect, and I'm excited to watch her with the Chemics this winter.

Sloane was a breakthrough prospect at the SVSU Elite Camp. She came out guns blazing during the shooting warmup, swishing elbow jumpers at a high clip, and drilling back-to-back straightaway triples with textbook mechanics off the catch. Sloane was outstanding during the 3v3 segment. She scored multiple layups off the dribble, blocked shots, pounced on 50/50 balls, and chased down offensive rebounds. Sloane lifted to the wing and buried a confident three-pointer. She's a promising prospect that I hope to see again at our Freshman Showcase later this month.
