TEAM Warwick 15U Parish put together an impressive season, showing off a talented roster that found success in tournaments across South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa. Young but skilled, this group consistently proved they could compete at a high level, and many are poised to play at the next level. The future is bright — and there's no doubt this team will continue to excel on the hardwood.

Player Comments

#3 [player_tooltip player_id='935883' first='Teagen' last='Sturm'] (2028)

Teagen was recovering from an injury and made some huge strides this summer. As the summer progressed, she started to regain her strength and balance. She saw the court as a passer and started to shoot the ball better. As she continues to heal and regain her explosiveness, she will continue to improve.

#9 [player_tooltip player_id='1302194' first='Elin' last='Evans'] (2028)

Elin is a kid that does all of the little things. She defends, she rebounds, she boxes out, and makes open shots. She had a very good summer improving and will continue to grow.

#11 [player_tooltip player_id='1258995' first='Taylor' last='Rypkema'] (2028)

Taylor is very athletic and has a great wingspan. She gained more confidence as the summer progressed. She is great running the wing in transition, her long frame helped her to be disruptive defensively and find some offensive boards. She is also a capable shooter from deep. As she gains muscle strength her game could really take off.

#13 [player_tooltip player_id='1209839' first='Amirah' last='Bleeker'] (2028)

Amirah is a really good catch and shoot player. She started to find her opportunities to score as the summer progressed and the team was able to help her play to her strengths. She is a very intelligent defender, she does a great job of being in the right place to help and recover for her teammates.

#14 [player_tooltip player_id='1093196' first='Katie' last='Betsworth'] (2028)

Katie had a great June and July shooting the ball. She is very dangerous as a catch and shoot threat and aggressive enough to put the ball on the floor as well. She plays bigger than her size, she is not afraid to mix it up in the paint offensively or defensively.

#20 [player_tooltip player_id='935880' first='Josie' last='Biteler'] (2028)

Josie can score at all three levels. She can shoot it from deep, she can pull up, and she can finish in the paint off of her own drive or from cutting and posting. She has good instincts defensively and does a good job of sharing the ball in transition. She picked up an offer from USD and is drawing interest from several other schools.

#23 [player_tooltip player_id='935876' first='Ella' last='Otten'] (2028)

Ella is a tremendous ball handler and so dangerous in the open floor. In transition she can hesitate and get to the rim, she sees the floor very well and can distribute, and she is a very capable three point shooter as well. Her explosiveness, change of speed and direction make it difficult to keep her out of the paint. Ella has an offer from USD and has drawn the attention of several other schools.

#32 [player_tooltip player_id='929575' first='Jersi' last='Schultz'] (2028)

Jersi had a great finish to the summer. She is a capable shooter and has greatly improved finishing around the rim. Defensively, she can guard post and wing positions and rebounds the ball well. She is a girl that we expect to see big growth from this winter with her high school team.

#33 Taya Christie (2028)

Taya is a very good combo post player. She can shoot it from 15 feet and in with a good release, in the post, she has a variety of moves and double moves that she uses to put the ball in the basket. If left alone, she is also a capable three-point shooter. Defensively, she works hard with larger post kids and has improved her rebounding.

“[player_tooltip player_id='929575' first='Jersi' last='Schultz'] improved a great deal from beginning to end. She learned to play at a faster pace and play more physically as the summer progressed.”

PGHD: How did the team improve from the start of the season to the end?

“It was a great experience watching the team grow. Something that summer teams don't typically do is defend as well as this group did. There were multiple times during the summer that the team would go on big runs with 4+ consecutive defensive stops.”

PGHD: Who were a few of your hardest workers?

“[player_tooltip player_id='1093196' first='Katie' last='Betsworth'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1302194' first='Elin' last='Evans'] were both very hard workers. They did not have the same size and strength as the kids that they often matched up against, so they had to outwork their opponents to negate their size and athleticism.”

PGHD: Can you talk about a time when the team overcame adversity?

“We were really struggling with a team in the spring. With about 5 minutes left, it looked like we were cooked. Our girls changed defenses and finished the game on a big run and won.”

PGHD: Who was your top post player?

“[player_tooltip player_id='929575' first='Jersi' last='Schultz'] and Taya Christie both had the difficult job of playing a little bit undersized. They played hard defensively and tried to use their foot speed to beat the larger posts down the floor in transition.”

PGHD: Who emerged as an unexpected contributor or breakout star?

“[player_tooltip player_id='1093196' first='Katie' last='Betsworth'] and [player_tooltip player_id='929575' first='Jersi' last='Schultz'] both grew from being solid players to being very good players as the summer progressed. Their contributions from spring to July grew significantly.”

PGHD: What lessons from this season go beyond basketball?

“Playing with new kids means figuring out their strengths and weaknesses and trying to shape your game to fit in for everyone to be successful.”
