Expo season continues next week with events in Washington state, Colorado, Arizona and Oklahoma. Before we look ahead, it certainly helps to look back on the weekend it was in the Carolinas. Here is our evaluation of Team 1's top performers from this year's Expo.

In order to win, one must have Faith. It appeared as if whenever Yon had the ball, she was a threat to make a successful play. She combines talent, a high basketball IQ and veteran instincts. As she heads into her junior season, her athletic career has also included a stint on the volleyball court. Yon also places emphasis on rebounding which is not always a common attribute of 5-foot-6 guards. Yon is a gifted attacker of the rim who also has a 3-point shot as part of her repertoire and can get out in transition. She competed in 21 games last season for Durham School of the Arts and averaged 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 steals. The Bulldogs are moving to 5A beginning this season.

Young is another multi-sport athlete – and one who also participates in volleyball alongside her hoops achievements. She is listed as a forward, but a hallmark of her game is the ability to fearlessly attack the basket as if she plays point. She particularly displays confidence in this area of her game but she can also connect from the midrange. Young does not shy away from the physical nature of the game – whether it is falling to the floor to complete a play or drawing contact that can place her at the free throw line. In the 23 games Young played last season for Washington County, she averaged 16 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals per contest.

The energy Elliott exerts is more than enough to elevate West Ashley to excellence. Another two-sport athlete with soccer being her second sport of choice, her ball handling skills can leave many opposing defenders guessing – and leave her open to connect from either midrange or long range. Elliott will be in her fourth season playing varsity and has only improved ever since – particularly on defense and as a rebounder. An [program_tooltip program_id='715414' first='SC' last='Lady Sixers'] product who also spent some time with Team Charleston 843 in the travel realm, she averaged 12.7 points, 3.9 steals and 3.2 rebounds per contest last season with the 5A Division 1 Wildcats.

The Blue Eagles of 5A Division 1 Clover have been very active during the travel and showcase seasons and that continued as Smith turned in another stellar Blue Eagles performance only a half hour away from Clover HS. Smith can haul in her fair share of rebounds and also displays superb ball handling capabilities. Transition plays are another strong point to her game as is ball distribution. The heads-up attitude she approaches the game with puts her in position to make plays and gives her team great chances to capture plenty of victories. Last season's Blue Eagles finished with a 23-3 record and the veterans that will make up its 2025-26 core – including Smith – will surely have Clover as a 5A Division 1 favorite once again this season.
