Every second that ticks is also an opportunity to ensure one's game is as sharp as possible to get their teams in the win column more often than not over the next several months.

That is the purpose of showcase events such as the recent FBC United The Jungle gathering that took place at the ReCreation Athletics complex in Columbia. Saturday's occasion welcomed high schoolers and middle schoolers primarily from South Carolina and Georgia.

For North Myrtle Beach, the grass turned out to be green on the other side of the 4A to 5A (Division 2) divider thanks to Vereen. She was a key ingredient in the Chiefs' winning puzzle that got her team to last season's 5A Division 2 Lower State championship and will likely be even more of a featured player the next two seasons with North Myrtle Beach. In the 25 games she played last season for the Chiefs, Vereen averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.8 steals and 4.2 assists – a testament to her development in all areas of her game. Vereen has also participated in track and field events.

There were a few names that were in attendance at Recreation Athletics that also made appearance at the SCBCA Elite Camp the previous day. Williams was one of those names. Whenever she was on the court, she was finding ways to make plays – whether it was in close proximity to the basket or behind the 3-point line. If an opposing ball carrier is in front of her, Williams' objective will be to deflect said rock from said ball carrier's hands. She will also call for the ball when she is confident in her ability to make a play. Williams played in 24 games last season at Legion Collegiate. She averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.9 steals in 2024-25 for the Lancers.

Following a 2024-25 season where 5A Division 1 Dorman finished with a 20-8 record, the Cavaliers know Moore is in store. Moore played her club ball with [program_tooltip program_id='713005' first='Upward' last='Stars'] which plays on the Adidas circuit. She seamlessly is able to fuse together taking care of the ball with plenty of speed, quickness and ferocity when attacking the rim. Moore understands how to organize an offense in a halfcourt set and places as much emphasis on passing and defense as she does placing crooked digits on the scoreboard. She averaged 11.9 points, 5.2 assists, four steals and 3.2 rebounds in 23 games for the Cavs last season and secured her first offer from Wingate back in the summer.

Hailstock's recruitment took quite the uptick during the summer months of AAU ball. She landed offers from Wingate, Coker and a Division I look from Presbyterian. The phrase “take a play off” does not appear in Hailstock's basketball thesaurus. She understands how to find lanes through defenses to attack the rim and exerts a high level of energy on the defensive end of the floor as well. Regardless of where Hailstock is on the court, she is a threat to put points on the board. She played in 27 games last season for a J.L. Mann team that was a 5A Division 1 Upper State finalist in back-to-back seasons. She averaged 15.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

Ask many a coach and many of them will say they will prefer someone who makes the winning plays over those who make the flashy plays. McIver is the definition of someone who makes the winning plays – and many of the winning plays occur on defense as she is very difficult to score on. Not only does McIver's six-foot stature provide a formidable height advantage but her length comes into play on defense as well. Much of what McIver does offensively is in close proximity to the basket but there is a 3-point shooting element to her game as well. McIver played in 23 games last season for 5A Division 1 Mauldin and has been at the varsity level since the seventh grade.
