We have five players in this piece that are all ready to play their role within their Varsity program over the next few months. That role could mean being the team's main source of production or it could mean being a role player within their team's system. Either way, these players are crucial to their team's success this season.

Rock Valley is known as a place with some dedicated shooters of the basketball but something this is overshadowed is their Forward play under the hoop. The past three years we have seen [player_tooltip player_id='996531' first='Miylie' last='Zomer'] do her thing underneath and that will be the case for one more go-around over the next six months. Zomer is a serviceable Forward with a decent mixture of skill, touch, coordination, balance, and smarts. She can make simple plays near the hoop with her back-to-the-basket or she can score back off of a rebound. Either way, if she has a clean look offensively, it's usually going to be good! Not every single time, but most of the time. If Zomer can keep that up for another six month stretch, this team should be one that makes some headlines come Playoff time.

I think we learn a lot about [player_tooltip player_id='641977' first='Grace' last='Fincham'] this Winter. Fincham is a UNI WBB commit and she is going to have to play like it this season if IC - West wants to make some waves within this Class from a State-wide perspective. Fincham can be really good. She has a fundamental shooting from, she has an act for being in the right place at the right time, and she is dedicated to her crafty in her off-time. I'm not sure how she is going to fit at the D1 level but as long as she works hard enough and controls what she can, she should get better and better. This is a hooper that will be looked upon to play a major role with her West team for her last go-around at the high school level. If she plays her game, she should be just fine and her team should have success.

The underclassmen group at Waukee NW is somewhat overshadowed but let me tell ya, they can PLAY. Someone that I expect to make a big impact this season is [player_tooltip player_id='1092007' first='Sadie' last='McCann'] at the CG spot. McCann has an odd game. She just makes plays happen. She is extremely efficient and she is very smart when it comes to knowing when to do what out on the hardwood. She might not be the one to average 20 & 10 but she is going to be a major piece to the Wolves puzzle as they attempt to bring home a 5A State Title. The best part? While this happens McCann isn't the type to force unneeded action. She will take what the defense gives her and work from there. Something you love to see out of a prospect from the young high school grade levels.

[player_tooltip player_id='795874' first='LJ' last='Maehl'] should be a dominating force near the basket this Winter at Fort Dodge. I don't know many opponents that will face ND, that will have enough size to deal with LJ and her natural length. LJ is a solid SF, who is committed to compete at the D2 level following this Winter and for good reason. LJ is very clever and crafty underneath while being a force to be reckoned with. She has touch to go over any smaller or weaker opponents but she can also hit her defender with a crafty move to open herself up. If NWMS can work with LJ when she gets to the next level, there is a lot to like here. She just needs to focus on working on her weaknesses.

We have heard a lot about [player_tooltip player_id='832196' first='Graclyn' last='Eastman'] this off-season so naturally excited to see what she can bring to the floor for her Junior year at BG. Eastman, a 6'0 SF, has started to round out her game. She is becoming better further away from the hoop while still being dangerous underneath on both sides of the ball. She will be this BG team's source of production between the blocks so she will have ample opportunities over the next 24 months. If BG wants to bring it back to the 1A State Title conversation, they are going to have to bust out of the gates on fire this season. Something that is definitely do-able as we kick things off her in the next few weeks.
