Three days, twelve games, and four champions. A basketball junkie like me couldn't miss a single game. For the third straight year, I had a blast providing live Prep Girls Hoops coverage at the Breslin Center during the MHSAA State Semifinals and Finals from opening tip to final buzzer. Many players impacted the games, but these D4 prospects separated themselves the most on the biggest stage.

Mya is going D1 for volleyball (Baylor), and she showed everyone why she's also a D1 basketball prospect at the Breslin Center. Her 6-foot-plus frame, freakish athleticism, ruthless shot-blocking, mobility, and relentless rebounding were factors no team had an answer for. She posted 15 points, 15 rebounds, five steals, and four blocks to help Ishpeming edge out its toughest challenger of the season in Morenci. Then Mya turned in a near triple-double with 18 points, 17 rebounds, nine blocks, and six steals in the Championship Game, guiding the Hematities to their second state title in three years. She closed out to block shots with ferocity on the perimeter and in the paint. Mya swiped the ball away on the perimeter, pushed it the length of the floor using both hands, and finished with a strong and-one layup. She scored putbacks at will, including an athletic tip-in, posted up defenders to score off entry passes, and knocked down shots from the charity stripe. Mya hit double-digits in four categories during her two games at the Breslin Center with 33 points, 32 rebounds, 13 blocks, and 11 steals. She is the 2026 D4 All-Breslin Team MVP.

Jenessa led Ishpeming in scoring at the Breslin Center, and her performances were crucial to the team securing its second D4 State Championship in three years. Jenessa started with 20 points, four rebounds, and three steals in the semifinals against Morenci, then added a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the State Championship Game. She buried several smooth pull-up jumpers from different spots and distances inside the arc. Jenessa took a steal the other way with speed and scored with a confident left-handed finish. She drove by a defender with a dribble burst, then scored an athletic stretch layup in traffic. Her confident shooting, athleticism, and ability to penetrate off the bounce gave the Hematites an advantage.

Emersyn delivered for Morenci on the big stage and posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the State Semifinals against Ishpeming. She made smart backdoor reads, caused fouls, was active on the defensive end, and was a determined rebounder. Emersyn cut backdoor, caught the pass, made a smooth transfer, and dropped in a floater off two feet in the lane. The floater is a staple in Emersyn's game. She split the gap with a speedy dribble to score a layup, crashed the glass to score a putback, and drove aggressively to the rim, earning many trips to the line. Emersyn converted eight shots from the charity stripe and generated steals with her pesky on-ball pressure.

I was talking to a colleague before the game, and we knew Colbie was ready to deliver a monster performance. She was amped during the pre-game lineup announcements, and that energy continued during Morenci's State Semifinal matchup against Ishpeming. Colbie led the Bulldogs with 18 points and added seven rebounds. She battled for interior positioning to score multiple offensive rebound putbacks, including one where she ripped the ball away aggressively and powered up off two feet for the finish. She cut backdoor, caught the entry pass, then scored through contact for the and-one. Colbie completed the three-point play at the line. She absorbed contact on a baseline drive and then scored one of her many layups off two feet. She crashed the glass to create second-chance scoring opportunities and turned in the most impressive game I've seen her play on the biggest stage against the toughest opponent.

Gracelyn was Portland St. Patrick's court general and unquestioned leader throughout their memorable postseason run back to the State Finals. She delivered a determined double-double during the Shamrocks' state semifinal victory against Onekama with 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. She led the way again in the Championship Game with 10 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Gracelyn has crafty footwork in the post and creates the scoring angle she needs to finish with touch at the rim. She crashed the glass to secure many rebounds on both ends, cut backdoor for layups, finished off two feet, dished out crisp passes with great vision to open teammates, created steals with her perimeter pressure, switched hands in the lane to slash downhill for two points, and knocked down free throws at the line.

Macie had a fantastic freshman year for Portland St. Patrick and she delivered a huge semifinal performance against Onekama. Macie led the Shamrocks with 18 points and added eight rebounds in the win. She was red hot in the first quarter. Macie buried a corner three after chasing down an offensive rebound, scored a putback, and drained another corner three to give the team a six-point lead after one. Macie drove through the gap with a burst for a layup and cut backdoor for a left-handed bucket. She created separation with quick crossovers, then side-stepped a defender to score the transition layup. Macie added four points and five rebounds in the State Championship Game and has a bright future ahead at Portland St. Patrick.
