We have seen an impactful twelve months this last year out of Ella Otten at the Varsity level for Bishop Heelan High School. Otten came over from SD and made her mark early on. She showed that she was a prime guard, who can get her own shots offensively while also being a creator. She moves between the 1 and 2 spots a majority of the time, playing wherever is needed. She is more of a natural at the 2 position with how well she can score the rock but that doesn't mean she can't be your team's top PG at times. She has ample coordination for her position and when you mix that with her athletic ability + smarts, you get a producer in more ways than one.

If you are looking for a steady hooper out of the 2028 Class, that can make some meaningful plays on both sides of the ball than you should look towards Kayla Scamman of Shenandoah High School. Scamman is a pass first player. She knows how and when to score but she is much better at creating for others around her off the bounce with her killer instincts. She knows her own spacing to a T, always moving into open opportunities once she passes and cuts, demonstrating how she thinks about the game in some moments and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what she brings to the hardwood as a rebounder, defender, and teammate. I'm hoping we see another level out of Scamman this Winter. She should have the keys to the car so she should be leading the way whenever we end up checking in but we will see.

We could see a big step up out of Paige Andernacht this Winter with the Johnston Dragons. They will still be a guard-heavy group but their play in the middle will be crucial to balance out the floor and that's where Andernacht comes in. Last season as a Sophomore Andernacht did as she was asked. She played her role, making offensive conversions on both blocks, sometimes through contact. She rebounded and defended her own while patrolling help side when need be and she showed her overall versatility as a recruit as the Winter pushed towards the Spring. I think the Dragons are going to look inside a little more this season to take pressure off their outside play and that could help take them a long way once the post season kicks off.

Samantha Dorrity is one of those prospects that has a high potential because of her natural mixture of size, skill, smarts, and dedication to the game. Offensively, she is a lot to handle on either block when she has time and spacing near the hoop. If you don't bring a double and she has that god-given advantage then it's going to be a long night for whoever is standing in her way. Defensively, she controls things around her at a better than average rate. She can wall up against others that might be bigger and she can stick with someone on the switch that might be quicker. It all depends on the situation. CR Xavier will have height over most for the foreseeable future with Dorrity and who they have coming in. They need to take advantage of that. If they can, they will end up in DSM at the 4A State Tournament before you know it once again.

The Newell-Fonda Mustangs are going to return this Winter as the 1A favors to hoist the State Title for back-to-back championships. If they want to accomplish this difficult feat then Ellie Sievers is going to have to play at a high rate all season long. Something which is do-able at this point in her career from what we have seen in recent history. Sievers is smooth with it. She is a crafty operator, who is going to be one of the best, if not thee best 1A Player this upcoming season throughout the state if she focuses on the correct things. She will definitely have the noteworthy numbers. For me it'll all come down to how far she can take them during the Playoffs. That's when they will play real competition and that's when it'll actually matter who shows up. As for Sievers within this Update, she is going to round out our Top 15 at #15 at we move into the last month of AAU summer in July.
