BCAM Reaching Higher: 2027 Guards Standing Out

BCAM Reaching Higher is Michigan's premier high school girls' basketball team showcase each summer. BCAM brings 60+ teams from across the state to Grand Valley State University campus to compete in front of college coaches from every level. Two days provided ample opportunity to evaluate the prospects in the gym. I was able to see most of the teams play at some point over the weekend, and these were some of the top guards in the gym:   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">UPCOMING PGH EVENTS (Use "EvanBell10" code for discount)</h2>   The Freshman Showcase (2030s), August 22nd   <a href="https://events.prepgirlshoops.com/e/2390/register/michigan-freshman-showcase">Registration Link</a>   The Expo (2027-2029s), September 26th   <a href="https://events.prepgirlshoops.com/e/2420/register/the-expo-michigan">Registration Link</a>    Jozelynn committed early and she's an absolute steal for Ferris State. Her physical attributes, dynamic skill set, and mamba mentality on the court translate to the highest levels of college basketball. Freeland looked like a team ready to challenge the D2 darlings during games at BCAM Reaching Higher. Jozelynn will be the unquestioned leader for an extremely young, talented, and hungry Falcons core. She's a dual-threat scorer and was one of the most dominant guards in the gym. Jozelynn used a quick crossover twice to beat the first defender and accelerated to the rim for a straight line layup. She anticipated passes from the help side and snatched them out of the air. Jozelynn switched lanes with a crossover to go by for a tough and-one layup with her left hand and batted down a pass on the perimeter for a steal. She drilled a deep wing three off the catch and knocked down another smooth three from the wing. Jozelynn is efficient from beyond the arc and defenses find out quickly that they can't give her an inch of space.     Sydney made a complete impact for East Lansing at BCAM Reaching Higher. She cut backdoor and made a quick transfer to score at the rim without missing a step. Sydney cut to the basket again and made a tough reverse finish look effortless in traffic. She worked hard to secure offensive rebounds and stayed active on the defensive end. Sydney buried a smooth jumper off top and knocked down a straightaway three off the dribble. Her length, athleticism, high motor, instincts on and off the ball, and ability to slash or score from the perimeter will be very valuable at the next level.     Jaynie is operating with supreme confidence right now, and it showed at BCAM Reaching Higher. She had the ball on a string. Jaynie shifted gears and switched hands effectively to slash and score or facilitate the rock to open teammates. Her sharp instincts and anticipation on the defensive end created deflections and steals. Jaynie pushed the ball up the floor with pace to create transition points. She shot lights out from beyond the arc, sinking multiple threes from the wing and slot with pinpoint accuracy. DeWitt will be a tough out again this season, and Jaynie looks ready for a huge senior year.     Nalaya put her best abilities on full display during BCAM Reaching Higher. Her athleticism, high motor, and dynamic skills as a slasher give opposing guards more than they can handle. She finished well at the rim, penetrated gaps, and impacted the game with her aggressiveness on the defensive end. Nalaya showed her outside range, sinking threes from the slot and the wing. She's a very competitive, athletic, and multidimensional guard.     Baylor looked to be in mid-season form for Goodrich at BCAM Reaching Higher. She's one of the most complete guards in this class, and she contributed in every phase once again. Baylor turned in a highlight reel play when she took a steal all the way to the rim with pace, absorbed the contact, then scored the and-one layup, contorting her body to finish with her inside hand. Baylor drained a three from the slot, swished a catch-and-shoot corner three, and added a three from the wing off the dribble. She slashed to the hoop for a layup, weaved past defenders to score an and-one bucket, and made a split-second dump-off pass to a cutter for the assist off a quick baseline drive.     Just because you know what's coming doesn't mean you can stop it. Mia is the focal point of the Mio offense, so defenses are always going to throw the kitchen sink at her to try to slow her down. She was completely dialed in at BCAM Reaching Higher. The team repped battle fatigue jerseys, and Mia looked ready to win the war in front of high-level college coaches. Her sharpshooting could be seen across the gym throughout the event. Mia went on a scoring spree where she knocked down four straight jumpers in a game from the mid-range and beyond the arc. She switched hands with ease, maintained her balance, and used her compact frame very well to create space from defenders to slash, shoot, or dish. Mia added a smooth three up top and another straightaway triple from way downtown. She's on pace to set a new Michigan high school career scoring mark, and Mio should be one of the top D4 contenders with her leading the charge this winter.
