The Big North Shootout is a team camp that's been around for 21 years. Taking place in beautiful Petoskey and Boyne City, this event brings quality teams and prospects to beautiful Northern Michigan year after year. Director Ray Kimball does an outstanding job running the event, and it's an event I look forward to covering, not just because it happens to take place in a resort town. There are always hidden gem prospects to be found from under-the-radar teams, and this year was no different. These prospects were impact players for their teams throughout the day:

Lyla made a complete impact on the court for Petoskey at the Big North Shootout. Lyla penetrated gaps in the zone, collapsed the defense, and distributed excellent passes to open teammates comfortably with her right and left. She caused deflections and blocked shots with her active hands. Lyla had great vision in traffic and made an unselfish wrap around pass out of a double team to create a wide open look for an assist. She didn't force, attacked hard downhill off the dribble, and scored determined layups. Lyla pushed the tempo after securing defensive rebounds and sprinted up the floor, then converted a full speed catch and finish bucket off two feet with her left hand. Lyla shot the ball confidently from beyond the arc and swished a smooth step back three from the wing. She's a compact guard with a motor and skills that translate to the next level.

Brooklynn had a strong showing for Kent City at the Big North Shootout. She drove hard off the dribble and made smart basket cuts to give herself high-percentage scoring options. Brooklynn made a smooth transfer to score a strong catch and finish and-one with her left off two feet, then used a flex cut for another two foot finish. She used a crossover, spin dribble combo move to get the driving edge, absorbed contact while maintaining her balance, then finished with a soft and-one layup with her left off the glass. Brooklynn completed the three-point play at the line. She worked inside for rebounds, scored a putback, and sprinted the floor for a transition catch and finish. Brooklynn has the versatility to play inside and outside. She'll be a great addition to a college program.

Brooke made an impact for Kent City with her slashing abilities and sharp instincts at the Big North Shootout. She split the gap to score a speedy floater, went by on a hard drive for a layup, and drove down the baseline with a burst to earn a trip to the free throw line. Brooke used a quick rip move to get by a defender from the perimeter, hesitated for a split-second with a pocket dribble, switched to her left, then scored with a smooth inside hand finish. She stayed active on the perimeter, deflecting passes for steals, and used her anticipation to jump into the passing lane up top for a swipe and fast break layup. Brooke is a guard who can help programs at the next level.

Avary was very physical inside for Lowell at the Big North Shootout. She cut to the basket, sealed a defender with a strong stance, used a high-rip step-through pivot to get the scoring angle, then scored the strong and-one layup through contact. Avary tacked on the free throw to complete the three-point play. She has the versatility to play positions 3-5, sees the floor, and has good instincts playing off the ball.

Shelby was a sparkplug for Kent City at the Big North Shootout. Her all-out effort and hustle stood out. There was one series where Shelby put her body on the line twice, diving on the floor to secure the loose ball. She threw a great overhead entry pass to a cutter for an assist, and made a nice transfer to score a catch and finish layup. Shelby sprinted in to secure an offensive rebound, dribble out to the perimeter, and buried the open corner three. She used excellent technique to deny a cutter in the paint, deflecting the entry pass to create a steal. Shelby will be a key player in the backcourt this winter.
