BCAM Reaching Higher is Michigan's premier high school girls' basketball team showcase each summer. BCAM brings 60+ teams from across the state to Grand Valley State University campus to compete in front of college coaches from every level. Two days provided ample opportunity to evaluate the prospects in the gym. I was able to see most of the teams play at some point over the weekend, and these were some of the top point guards in the gym:

Madisyn is back in the Mitten for her senior season and looks ready to help Powers Catholic make another deep playoff push after a strong showing at BCAM Reaching Higher. Her pressure and instincts in the passing lanes created multiple steals. She jumped a pass on the perimeter for a steal and took it the rest of the way for the fast break finish. Madisyn created space with a shifty iniside-out dribble up top and went by with a burst to score a left-handed finish in traffic off two feet. She made a quick transfer to her left hand for a catch and finish and absorbed contact well to score with soft touch off the glass. Madison showed her outside range, sinking a triple from the slot and added a deep three-pointer from the wing. She dropped in a contested floater and fired a one-handed entry pass on a rope to a cutter for an assist. Her ability to penetrate defenses off the dribble is going to create wide open looks for the many offensive weapons for Powers this year.

Aries is a commanding court general and fearless leader in the East Kentwood backcourt. She competes with an all-out effort on both ends of the floor that quickly draws your attention. Aries knocked down a long wing jumper and drilled a corner three. She anticipated passes and picked them off from the help side. Aries was all over the place on the defensive end. She pressured ball-handlers and timed up a shot perfectly to leap up and make the block. Aries facilitates effectively, has shifty handles, and empties the tank every time I see her play. She's a point guard prospect who stood out at BCAM Reaching Higher.

The Holder sisters were an electric backcourt tandem at BCAM Reaching Higher. Emersen played with a mamba mentality on the court. She slashed to the hoop and ripped the nets with deadly precision from the outside. Emersen created space to drive using shifty crossovers, scored a crafty finish, side-stepped a defender in the lane for another high percentage bucket, swished a silky smooth step-back three, and drained a straightaway three. That was a snapshot from one game Saturday and on Sunday Emersen went berserk. In the first half she hit a wing three, corner three off the dribble, another wing three, and a corner three to close out the half. Her scrappy pressure and quick hands poked the ball out for steals in the press. Emersen added two more corner threes and I think everybody had wide eyes on the college sideline. The Holder sisters were on fire for Regina and Emersen consistently competed at her best throughout the weekend. She seized the moment under the spotlight.

Kenna had high-profile D1 college coaches watching her play at BCAM Reaching Higher. She demonstrated elite athleticism, fundamentals, and poise that separate her from the pack. Kenna split the gap with a burst and side-stepped the help defender to score a floater. She attacked from the wing, showed off her hops by hanging in mid-air to finish the layup, and buried a smooth jumper from the corner. Kenna has the dexterity needed to score in traffic using a variety of finishing releases with both hands, and she'll keep coming after rebounds until the ball goes through the net. Kenna's ability to penetrate and draw a crowd creates wide-open looks for shooters on the perimeter. Her fast feet, quick hands, instincts, and aggressiveness generate steals which lead directly to transition points. Kenna has deep range and accuracy from three that puts defenders in a catch-22. Jackson Lumen Christi is a favorite to repeat, and Kenna will be their x-factor once again.

Kensingten showed no timidity whatsoever while playing up against varsity players at BCAM Reaching Higher. She moved like a pinball on the court, zooming around with speed and confidence to make plays from sideline to sideline. Kensignten stole the ball away from guards on the perimeter, scored tough layups in traffic, and stepped outside to swish multiple threes from up top and in the corners. She has the ball on a string and changes hands with ease. Kensingten was a playmaker for Regina, and it was so exciting to see the Holder sisters competing together on the court.

Naimah is very difficult to keep from penetrating off the dribble, which is one of the reasons why she's a top point guard prospect in Michigan. She delivered a noteworthy weekend for Mercy at BCAM Reaching Higher. Naimah used a pocket dribble up top, shifted her defender with a quick behind-the-back crossover combo, accelerated straight downhill, and converted the tough layup against a very long and athletic defender. Naimah swished threes from the slot and the corner, finished with a soft touch off the glass after ripping by a defender off the dribble, forced the defense to put her on the free throw line, and knocked them down. Her aggressiveness in the passing lanes created steals and transition scoring opportunities. Naimah dished out crisp passes to open teammates comfortably with her right and left hands; she's an effective facilitator.

Mack turned in an impressive showing for South Lyon East at BCAM Reaching Higher. She was an outright game wrecker. Mack has poise, confidence, and tight handles that you look for in a lead guard. She has a silky smooth pull-up jumper and demonstrated the ability to create space to shoot with a defender in her face. Mack buried a mid-range pull-up and put a defender through a series of inside-outs before drilling the pure wing three off the bounce. Add that play to the highlight reel. Mack slashed to the basket and facilitated the ball effectively to open teammates. She's a crafty point guard with the IQ and fundamental abilities needed to be a great addition at the next level.

Madison has the versatility to play a lead scoring role or dish out double-digit assists. She makes the right plays and does what needs to be done for the team to win. Decision-making is a premium as a point guard prospect. Madison checks the boxes as a cerebral, athletic, shifty, fundamentally skilled, and physically compact guard who hits that 5-6/5-7 threshold you like to have at the higher levels running the one spot. Madison delivered two solid days for Eisenhower at BCAM Reaching Higher. She slashed to the hoop for a contested finish off two and dumped the ball off for an assist after forcing the help to commit to her dribble. Madison made a smooth transfer off a backdoor cut for an in-stride catch and finish off two. She drained a smooth wing three and impacted the game with her defensive prowess. Madison jumped a pass on the perimeter for a swipe and score, then went right back to the well for a tip, steal, and fast break left finish off two feet.

Emily was a major stock riser on the PGH Circuit during the first AAU session, and she delivered a knockout punch for Caledonia at BCAM Reaching Higher. She's a contributor in every phase of the game. Emily was all over the place, outworking the opponent to secure many offensive rebounds. She caught passes on the perimeter with her feet set and ready to shoot, beat the defensive shifts by throwing strong skip passes across the court, and demonstrated excellent vision. Emily uses her length and instincts to create steals on or off the ball. She's very active in the gaps. Emily handles the ball confidently with both hands, finishes with touch in traffic, and is a complete point guard.

Addison made one of the loudest statements at BCAM Reaching Higher. Simply put, she looked and played like a high-level point guard. She has filled out her frame and physically imposed her will throughout the event. Addison ripped the net with a deep straightaway three, but it was her assertive takes to the basket that particularly stood out. She bulldozed through a defender's chest with a strong shoulder for a left-handed finish and continued to attack downhill with determination. Addison drove to the third level, powered through the defender, absorbed the contact, and finished a crafty veer layup with her left hand for the and one. She maintained her balance, glided to the rim, and went up effectively many times in traffic off two feet to finish with her off hand. Addison used a quick crossover dribble up top to get by the first defender, switched hands in the lane, and finished the drive-by layup with her left. She used an effective pivot move in the paint to create a scoring angle for the layup and dominated for Rockford. Her length and skill set create an advantage against opposing backcourts.
