The Au Sable Shootout has been a staple team camp for decades, launched by Director Ray Kimball in the early 2000s. Located in beautiful Tawas City, teams have the opportunity to head up for a day trip or make a vacation of it by staying for both days of the shootout. The Au Sable Shootout was actually the first event I ever did with my new varsity program back in 2022. I remember how fun it was to play a unique mix of teams and stay in a resort town. As I've transitioned from coaching to scouting, I circle this event on my coverage calendar every year as a golden opportunity to find new prospects from lesser-known schools. Our goal at PGH is to cover everybody, and the Au Sable Shootout is a great stop along the way to accomplish that mission. Here are six prospects who left no doubt that they have what it takes to be impactful college prospects:

When you get knocked down there's a decision to be made, get back up, or stay down. Kam went down hard in a game and showed real toughness by checking back in afterwards, then buried a triple from the slot and the corner. She kept the positive momentum going in the second game, swishing threes from the corner and the slot. Kam catches with her feet set, balanced, and ready to fire. She anticipated a dribble drive, moved quickly to cut it off, reached in to poke the ball away, pushed it up the court, got the defender on her hip, then finished the contested layup with her left at full speed for the and-one. Kam finished well at the rim in traffic and had a great day for Meridian at the Au Sable Shootout.

Lily goes up strong off two feet and absorbs contact well on her way to the basket. She imposes her will physically, taking advantage of her advanced muscular development and athletic frame. Lily was a shot-blocking machine, swatting two on the same possession and adding many more throughout the game. She drove downhill with determination and forced the defense to put her on the line. Lily cut backdoor for a catch and finish off two feet. She switched hands comfortably in traffic to score a layup and used the glass to score a soft finish off two feet in the lane. Lily moved to open space and drained the mid-corner jumper. She fired a 3/4 length pass on a rope up the court to beat the press and showed off her athleticism by snatching a rebound at its highest point. Lily had an impressive day for Vestaburg at the Au Sable Shootout.

Lily has quick-twitch, shifty, and elusive handles that make her difficult to contain off the dribble. Lily changed directions using fast crossovers, pivots, and spins to create open driving lanes, then kicked in the afterburners to score speedy layups with her right and left at the rim. She showed her outside range, drilling a three from the corner, and knocked down another up top. Lily was effective as a facilitator and made a contested layup with a smooth transfer off the catch. She was one of the quickest players in the gym, and her slashing ability stood out for Meridian at the Au Sable Shootout.

Bradie was in the zone for Concord at the Au Sable Shootout. She was in complete control as the court general and her confidence showed. Bradie blew by a defender down the baseline for a drive by layup and didn't need any help from the glass. She has outstanding touch around the basket and on her passes. Bradie threw a long lead pass up the court for an assist, dished out a split-second dump off on a drive for another, hit a cutter in stride with a great bounce pass feed, and made a great left-handed lob touch pass in the paint for another assist. She attacked with an extra gear on a downhill drive and absorbed contact for the layup. Bradie swiped the ball away on defense and took it all the way for two points. She slashed to the hoop for multiple layups and looked ambidextrous on the floor.

Lucie is the next great prospect coming through the ranks at Forest Hills Northern, and she's about to take the league by storm. She showed no freshman jitters at the Au Sable Shootout. Lucie is quick and disciplined on the perimeter. Her fast feet and hands generated several turnovers, keeping opposing guards bottled up. She sprinted back in transition to pick off a pass and intercepted passes from the help side. Lucie made a great dump-off to a teammate for an assist after cutting backdoor and finished layups with smooth transfers in stride off basket cuts. She's a threat from the outside, and swished a smooth wing three off the hop. Lucie stole the ball, switched hands with quick, shifty dribbles, attacked downhill, absorbed contact, and finished the contested layup for an and-one. She knocked down the free throw with confidence to complete the three-point play and pursued rebounds on both ends. Lucie looks like a guard ready to make a name for herself in this class.

Elite prospects leave no room for doubt that they belong in a higher category when they step onto the court. Molly made it clear that she was the best prospect in the gym at the Au Sable Shootout. She was outright dominant, playing with fierce determination in every phase of the game. Molly towers over players with her 6-foot-plus frame, which combines with her guard skills and mobility to make her a unique prospect. She used a jab step to create a lane, attacked down the baseline, side-stepped a defender, switched hands mid-air, and scored the layup. Molly ripped the ball away from an opponent and blocked several shots with tenacity inside. She took one dribble down the baseline and finished a tough, contested inside-hand finish. Molly drove hard to the rim and used her length to score an under-the-arm inside-hand finish for the and-one, then tacked on the free throw. She was deadly from beyond the arc, sinking many threes at a high clip from the wing, up top, and the corner. Two plays really stood out among the rest. Molly grabbed a defensive rebound, peeked up at the clock and noticed the seconds winding down, took a couple dribbles, then threaded a bullet bounce pass through a small window between defenders to a teammate for the buzzer-beating layup. High IQ play, understanding time and situation. Molly's day could be summed up when she swatted a shot away aggressively, secured the rebound, immediately pushed the ball up the court using both hands with a look of fierce determination in her eyes, split the gap heading straight to the rim, and finished the contested layup with strength. Nobody was going to stop her in that moment. Molly had a memorable day, and I'm happy I was there to see it.
