“Insanely athletic, creative finisher, above-average range shooter, and one of the best “on-ball” defenders in the state of Michigan.”

–Aaron Goodnough, Varsity Head Coach, Clarkston

Brooklyn is another uncommitted guard I’ll be keeping a close eye on as she heads into what should be a big senior season for Clarkston. She brings speed and versatility to the backcourt, using her quickness to get by defenders and create opportunities off the bounce. Brooklyn can get all the way to the basket, but she also does a good job recognizing when the defense collapses and finding an open teammate. Her ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc gives defenses another thing to account for and makes her a threat in multiple ways offensively. She also brings value on the defensive end with her quick hands and activity, creating steals that can lead to opportunities in transition. With her combination of speed, ball skills, shooting, playmaking and defensive ability, Brooklyn has plenty to offer at the next level. I’m looking forward to watching her senior season and seeing where she ultimately lands.

Brooklyn is a guard I would love to see at The Expo because of the speed, playmaking, and versatility she brings to the backcourt. She has the quickness to get past defenders and create opportunities off the bounce, whether that means getting all the way to the basket or finding an open teammate. Brooklyn can also stretch the floor with her ability to knock down shots from behind the arc, giving her multiple ways to put pressure on a defense. Her passing adds another dimension to her game, as she can create for others when defenders collapse on her drives. Brooklyn also makes an impact on the defensive end, where her quick hands and activity allow her to create steals and turn them into opportunities going the other way. Her combination of speed, ball skills, shooting, playmaking, and defensive activity is why I would love to get another look at Brooklyn competing at The Expo.

Brooklyn, a guard for Team 6, showcased her speed and playmaking ability at the Grand Valley Elite Camp. She used her quickness to get past defenders and create scoring opportunities, including several strong drives for buckets. Brooklyn also knocked down three-pointers, showing she can stretch the floor while attacking off the bounce. Her passing ability added another dimension to her game, and she was active defensively, coming away with multiple steals. Her combination of speed, ball skills, and defensive activity made for a strong showing throughout the evening.

Brooklyn got stronger as the day progressed and put some impressive highlights on display at CMU Team Camp. She swished a corner three in game one and buried another one in the afternoon. Brooklyn put her dancing shoes on up top, using consecutive between-the-leg dribbles with lightning-quick transfers, sized up her defender, then pulled up to sink a straightaway three off the dribble that barely disturbed the net. She raced straight to the rim off a dribble handoff to score a bucket, attacked down the baseline with a burst to score a layup, and threw a kickout to the corner on a rope for an assist off dribble penetration. Brooklyn will be the unquestioned ringleader for a very young, talented, and dangerous Clarkston team this season.

After a Headliners Invitational Showcase First Team performance, Brooklyn was ready to make another statement with Mystics 17U S40 at the PGH MI College Tour. She was dialed in from beyond the arc, ripping the nets with threes from the wings and the corner. Brooklyn threw great passes to cutters for assists, secured defensive rebounds, and chased down an offensive board before sinking a contested jumper. She ripped the ball away clean for a steal and scored a speedy drive-by layup off two feet. Brooklyn locked down opposing guards with her quick lateral footwork and solidified her place as a top 25 prospect.

Brooklyn was expected to be one of the best point guard prospects at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase, and she proved it on the court, turning in an All-Showcase First Team performance. Brooklyn led the attack for Team Wings. She made a smart backdoor cut from the corner, caught the pass in stride, and finished with a smooth reverse layup. Brooklyn earned style points, making a sweet behind-the-back bounce pass assist to a teammate cutting to the basket. She pushed the ball up the court with pace using both hands after securing defensive rebounds and finished at the rim. Brooklyn scored a full-speed bucket in transition, drilled a deep wing three, and took a steal coast-to-coast for another full-court layup. Her gritty defensive effort stood out amongst the group. Brooklyn is a complete point guard who gets the job done on both ends of the floor and never gets outworked.

My eyes lit up when I saw Brooklyn’s name on the registration list. She is the top-rated point guard coming into the event with the fundamental skill set and instincts necessary to excel as the lead guard, while also being capable of playing off the ball. Playing off the ball is a rare commodity at the high school level and an attribute that will make her an asset right away in college. Brooklyn’s game translates to the college level, and she’s excelled in every area of competition (elite camps, high school games, AAU) during my many evaluations of her over the past year. She scores at all three levels, defends, facilitates, finishes, has the ball on a string, and carries herself with a confident humility. Brooklyn looks ready to turn heads at the Headliners Invitational Showcase on Sunday.

Brooklyn is a Swiss Army knife combo guard who takes on whatever role she needs to play to help the team succeed. You can count on her defense, rebounding, passing, poised ball-handling, and dual-threat scoring abilities night in and night out. She turned in a complete performance against Avondale in the District 27 semifinals. Brooklyn attacked her defender with an explosive dribble, stopped on a dime, and sank the pull-up jumper. She buried another pull-up from the free throw line and threw an overhead entry pass into the low pass through a narrow window for the assist. Brooklyn showed her perimeter range, burying threes from the wing and up top. Her scrappy defense created turnovers, and Brooklyn poured in 15 points for Clarkston in the win.

Covert does a great job of controlling the pace for the Clarkston offense. She’s got great handles and has her head up looking for an open teammate. Her high energy on defense is contagious followed by active hands making it tough for opponents to execute their offense. She is ready to attack her defender at any moment and doesn’t shy away from the contact.
