1) Marisa Sanchez-Henry (Howard High School, 2020, #21) — Probably the most dominant performer on day 1 of Serious Hoops Fall League, Sanchez-Henry finished with 14 points in Howard’s 60-43 victory over Archbishop Spalding High School. The Wagner College commit proved she is a commander on the court; her skilled ball handling and natural point guard abilities sets the tone of Howard’s fast paced offense. Sanchez-Henry proved she is not afraid to take risks, stunning the defense with creative offensive attacks with each of her drives to the basket — one time even attempting a Euro step.
2) Anii Harris (Howard High School, 2020, #4) – Harris is a fearless guard, offensively and defensively, she gave her full effort on both ends of the court, finishing the day with 14 points in her team’s victory over Archbishop Spalding High School. The Salem University commit attacks the basket tenaciously, using her strong handles to run the break for Howard. She is a terror on defense, with quick hands she can steal the ball easily and is not afraid to dive to the floor after a loose ball.
3) Terra Dzambo (Archbishop Spalding High School, Senior, #4) – Despite her team falling to Howard in their first game of the tournament, Dzambo is a major reason Spalding remained in the game. Using her height advantage over Howard’s guards, Dzambo was not afraid to drive to the hoop, often employing a well-executed up and under. With a good jump shot coupled with her the ability to score at the rim, Dzambo proved to be an obstacle for defenders, finishing with 12 points.
4) Emily Durkee (Howard High School, Junior, #35) – It is evident Durkee has been mentored by her Senior teammates Sanchez-Henry and Harris, as her quick guard play also effectively executes Howard’s fast-paced offense when she runs the point alone. Durkee is scrappy and forced many turnovers on defense, leading to several transition buckets in her team’s victory over Archbishop Spalding High School. Though coming off of the bench, Durkee contributed many valuable minutes, showing her strong court vision and speed.
5) Ahniya Tillery, (Coppin High School, Sophomore, #6) – This young guard proved she is clutch at crunch time, putting up all 5 of her points in the 4th quarter—when Coppin needed them most in their close victory over Meade High School. A good shooter, this young guard can also finish at the rim. She has good vision and often dishes assists to her teammates in the paint. Also an aggressive defender, the future of Coppin looks bright with Tillery on the floor.
