Byron Xerxes Livsey | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
To say McDougall has gotten better since the end of her first high school season is not far-fetched. What has stood out the most is her body control when driving through contact, but her defense has been a strong suit as well. She has carved out a place as one of the top freshmen in the state, and after picking up a Division I offer, she has truly put a stamp on that. Big things are ahead for Kate, and if her skillset and confidence continue to grow at this pace.. the offers will continue to come in.

McDougall has always been a player with high potential. Joining a strong program with four established standouts meant her opportunities early on were limited, but when her moments came, she made them count. The talent shows in how naturally she blends her individual skill into the team’s flow, while still flashing the ability to take over when needed. There were several moments this season where you could see just how special she can be. This spring and summer should give her the chance to play more aggressively, and that’s when the upside really starts to show.

Grab-and-rip type with great size for a freshman. Strong chest passes and handles the ball well. Because of her frame, she’s a nightmare on the boards and can push the pace effectively. Very mature for her age with a strong build, and she already shows solid free-throw mechanics. Not a big scorer yet at the high school level, but the skill is definitely there if asked to step up. She has the look of a versatile floor general with long-term upside. Shows the ability to play traditional point or step into scoring role when the offense needs it.

McDougall comes from a family of basketball players, and the comfort she showed in her first state game pointed toward that. She helped on the scoring side of the ball, but the defensive end and the boards were what stood out the most. A young player who was not afraid to be physical on the boards and take risks when the ball was in the air, and on the ball. | 10pts, 9 rebs, 4 stls

McDougall is an extremely talented freshman from Washington. She can truly do it all whether it’s stepping out to hit a 3 or running the floor and making a play. On the defensive end her ability to get blocks, really stood out to me. Kate does not seem like a freshman on the court, she plays well beyond her years. She had 13 points thru 3 quarters in their super-sectional. McDougall will be key to a Washington win tomorrow.

McDougall has all the tools and natural ability to be a high level guard in this class, and shes already shown multiple glimpses of that so far this season. She’s crafty, confident, and plays the game with a smoothness and pace that automatically stands out. Defensively, she is a ball hawk and a risk taker, which usually works out in her team’s favor. Major upside.

Kate can flat out score the ball, but I believe her playmaking ability is what will stand out to coaches over time. She plays with her head up and no second thoughts. She takes risks, which usually end up as assists or the initial pass that led to one. A player to definitely keep your eye on.

McDougall will be joining a team that went deep in the state finals last year and is bringing back their core 4. However, if the minutes swing her way, we could be seeing a freshman win numerous individual accolades. McDougall is a hell of a talent at her age, and could argue as being one of the best underclassmen in her area. She’ll provide some scoring for this team, and they could come in bunches simply because this team is all about playing as one, regardless of your class.
