The biggest challenge will be how to integrate a team full of division on level players to play as one unit. If anyone can it would be Coach Oliver who has successfully dealt with a similar challenge with his days coaching HD Woodson. Key Additions: Gia Cooke (Transfer from Elizabeth Seton), Alliyah Pitts (Transfer from Woodbridge), Qadence Samuels (Freshman), Sahnya Jah (Freshman), Jessica Singletary (Transfer from Dunbar) Key Returning Players: Madison Scott, Taylor Gibson, Yonta Vaughn, Liatu King Key Losses: Jakia Brown-Turner (NC State), Aliyah Matharu (Mississippi State)' Kayla Thomas (Transfer) 2) St. John's College High School (Washington, DC) [caption id="attachment_25133" align="alignnone" width="300"] Azzi Fudd[/caption] Coach Johnathan Scribner has owned the WCAC the past couple of seasons and a huge part of his success has been courtesy of the nations top player 2021 Azzi Fudd. Fudd suffered a knee injury at USA Basketball and her return date is in question. He most likely can plan for life without Azzi for at least a good chunk of the season. The Cadets are still dangerous and the WCAC doesn't get into full swing until January, that being said Coach Scribner has weapons in place ready to step up the Tañado sisters Caramina and Isabella have proven their worth and are two of the best shooters in the conference. They also have a couple of impact freshmen coming in one being Destiny Tilghman. McNamara transfer Gianni Boone had a big summer and will be a nice addition if she doesn't run into the same rule restriction as Bmac's Cooke. Key Additions: Destiny Tilghman (Freshman), Gianni Boone (Transfer from McNamara) Key Returning Players: Azzi Fudd*, Kelis Corley, Taylor Napper, Caramina Toñado Key Losses: Malu Tshiteng-Mutumbo (UNC), Alex Cowan (Wagner), Carley Rivera (Columbia) 3) Paul VI (Fairfax, VA) [caption id="attachment_70131" align="alignnone" width="300"] Sydney Avoletta[/caption] Paul VI has been one of the nations best programs for the past 10 seasons. They have withstood injuries, transfers and graduations while continuing to maintain a high standard of quality basketball. This year may be their biggest challenge yet. They return some really good players starting with Sydney Avoletta and Faith Alston both of which will be leaned upon to pick up the scoring load left by the graduation of Ashley Owusu (Maryland). Lee Volker will provide a nice punch with her long range shooting and with everyone buying in to Coach Scott Allen's system the Panther's will be amongst the teams to beat in the WCAC, Key Returning Players: Faith Alston, Sydney Avoletta, Lee Volker, Alyssa Costigan, Jaelyn Talley, Fiona Hastick Key Losses: Ashley Owusu (Maryland), Lizzie Thibodeau Key Additions: None Listed 4) Bishop Ireton (Alexandria, VA) [caption id="attachment_25690" align="alignnone" width="300"] Kennedy Clifton[/caption] Bishop Ireton has been lingering around the WCAC top four every since Akunna Konkwo (Boston College) became a freshman. Ireton has a new identity with Konkwo's graduation and they are playing much faster now that they don't have their powerhouse inside. Kennedy Clifton is doing a little bit of everything for the Cardinal's and Laila Jewett is one of the best their is at controlling the flow of the game. They still have a solid inside presence with incoming transfer Olivia Brooks. Key Returning Players: Kennedy Clifton, Laila Jewett Key Losses: Akunna Konwo (Boston College) Key Additions: Olivia Brooks (Transfer from Woodbridge), Abigail Cooch (Freshman)
