<span style="text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>DC Premier Intersquad Scrimmage</strong></span>
Prep Girls Hoops had the opportunity to sit in on DC Premier and their workout/scrimmage. About 25 talented players gathered for drill sessions which consisted of mask wearings and social distancing. Referees attended for the intersquad scrimmage giving it a "real game" feel and there were some college players that participated which boosted the competition level tremendously. Most of the action was streamed and available for free on Prep Girls Hoops Marylands twitter feed.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>Standout Players:</strong></em></span>
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="136458" first="Makayla" last="Waleed"] - 5’8" - Riverdale Baptist - Guard - 2021</strong></span>
<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-193083" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/08/Makayla-Waleed-2-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />
Outside of the college players, Makayla had the best showing in the building. She played at a pace a step ahead of most of the other players and was able to attack and finish in traffic. Her shot was smooth and effortless and showed consistency.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="97930" first="Taylor" last="Jackson"] - 5’10" - Oxon Hill - Post - 2021</strong></span>
Taylor is a physical presence in the paint. She uses her body well to create space for rebounds and finishes well around the rim. She plays bigger than her listed 5’10" height and is very mobile for her size. Her mid range games allows her to stretch the floor a bit.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Zyaire Hairston - 5’10" - Dunbar (DC) - Guard - 2022</strong></span>
<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-193085" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/08/Zyaire-Hairston-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />
The surprise of the day was Zyaire who stood out immediately once the drills began. She is a true point that look to set up her teammates with slick sometimes "no-look" passes. She has the ability to see plays before they develope and makes the right play. She has a really good handle and can score on her own drawing contact and finishes.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Kirah Dandridge - 5’10" - Wing - Riverdale Baptist - 2022</strong></span>
<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-193088" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/08/Kirah-Dandridge-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />
Kirah showed great all around play and was particularly accurate from beyond the arc. This new found skill will be a true asset for RBS when (and if) the high school season resumes. She is a leader on the floor and a fearless defender playing the passing lanes well. She is a good finisher but can stop and pop in the open area.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Carolae Barton - 5’9" - Forward - 2024</strong></span>
As one of the youngest players in the building it was hard to tell that Carolae was still in middle school, in fact I didn’t know until I was told later. She mixed it up with the older kids and college players as if she belonged. She banged for rebounds and took one coast to coast on a pivotal play for her team. She is definately a player to watch as she enters high school in a couple of years.
